The show
The show is a completely new production, and according to information from the Finnish national broadcaster YLE the first show will reveal how the first selection jury reduced the 540 demos sent in to just 40. The reality style program will also show some clips from participants from outside the final top 40.
Tonight the 12 artists that have secured a place on further shows will be revealed. These 12 were selected by a professional jury. The audience will also be invited to select another wild card from three demos that did not make it. The UMK shows will be hosted by Anne Lainto and Joona Kortesmäki.

@Melina thank you so much for your explanation..I have many friends in Finland (one of my best friends is Outi Kesvevaari who works for Finnish TV, and also the writer of one of my favourite Finnish films re Finnish football club and the women overcoming the men in the final football match...love that film! :-), as Outi is a big ESC fan too , we are hoping for a great song from Finland this year...
@Dimitris yes I hope so, I will try my best because I love ESC, but unfortunately I don't have so much time these days, with my work as a journalist, it takes up all my time..as other members here know..but I will always try to answer members like you, who I have been in contact with for some time, and I appreciate as an "ESC today friend" here, as for Finland (on topic), good luck to them and their ESC process...
Paul cl: "maybe someone can explain to me what is going on re Finland ESC?" lol, I'm a Finn and I have no idea ;) Tried to watch the show at some point but couldn't make nor head nor tail of it ;) Well, actually *I think* today they introduced several of the songs submitted, over 500 or something, that's why even Korpiklaani was included (the only interesting part of the show ;)), even though they weren't chosen among the 40 candidates. And at the end of this show they announced which 12 of the 40 are the finalists... What strange choices, yes. Can't help but wonder at the motives of this jury...? Well, one can only hope a good wildcard will be chosen, and that a tolerable song will be sent to Baku (not easy with this lot, I must say)! :)

Paul,these are the 12 finalists.Next stage: 8 will proceed and will do a live club gig and 6 will qualify for the final.
Finnish final is 25.2.2012 in Helsinki Ice Hall and that is live.
OK, I had a window of opportunity to watch Finnish ESC, but somehow got a bit lost along the way, maybe someone can explain to me what is going on re Finland ESC?, as I understand, video shows finalists for Finnish final...or? a lost yet Finnish fan...
