Results of reference group meeting
Executive producer of the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 Sandra Šuša of Serbian broadcaster RTS is leaving the Reference group. During her speech she called the organisation of the contest the most exciting event in her professional life. Jon Ola Sand of NRK, executive producer of the 2010 contest in Oslo, received praise for his work and the excellent implementation of the motto Share the moment.
A request of moving the date that an entry is not allowed to have been released or publically performed before has been approved. The so-called 1st October rule has therefore become a 1st September rule. Previously, Belgian broadcaster RTBF had asked to move the date to as early as 1st May.
It has been decided that only four countries are directly qualified for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011: Germany, France, Spain and the United Kingdom. As a big four country is also the host country next year, the question was raised whether Turkey, runner-up in 2010, might get the free spot in the final. Therefore, 24 countries will take part in the final next year.
The meetings of the Heads of Delegation will take place on 14th and 15th March in the host city, which is yet to be determined. 14th March is also the deadline to submit entries for 2011. The host city is expected to be announced in the upcoming weeks.

@Kevin, i dont speak about richest countrey but about political power, and Germany are European and world political power, same for UK and Russia. Why do you thing all that countries who threat that is going to boycott ESC 2009 in Russia beacuse of Georgia issue ( Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania ) didnt boycott finally?
I dont thing is beacuse of ESC spirit
Guys nobody is going to withdraw from ESC 2011 beacuse is Germany the host
If the host was small or poor countrey maybe some countries withdraw but since is Germany the host NO WAY ! Also i thing that Germany will push and help financial some countries to not withdraw or to return
what a stupid way of thinking! if that would be the case then in the richest country of the world , norway , would be the record amount of participating countreys !!
Luis
I have Duna TV and it sucks way too much!
Even if Hungary return with Duna TV as broadcaster I expect disaster!
Since the other years no big 4 country had won, it was 5 countries automatically in the final: the big 4 plus the host. 20 qualifying spots available, but now that a big 4 country is the host then they see no need to make space for 25 countries. I would like to see 21 qualify, but it won't happen. :/
why cant we have 25 in the final next year, is it not possible to have 11 qualify from one of the semi finals !
And if Italy will come back next year in Germany and for Germany to the competition as a big 4 what will happens!!!

So dont be suprice if Czech Repuplic who is neighboor with Germany return ( only for ESC 2011 of course ) . Also Germany will push ( as big 4 countrey ) EBU to accept soon Liechtenstein aplication
Personal i thing this year participant countries will be 43 or 44
For sure Germany wants to brake participation recor so will do the best for that
@ guitar
I hope no country withdraws, especially Latvia and Lithuania. But there was talk in Latvia since 09 and their results in 09 and 10 were bad (although the songs were both very good in my opinion)
Let's wait and see what happens
@ Paschalis
Latvia Lithuania and Moldova can afford a jesc participation and are interested in it either for the first time or returning to it and they d withdraw from esc ? it seems highly unlikely..
Belarus will return; they're willing to spend what it takes. They seem like one of the countries that's really really in it to win it.
I think the countries that are at risk of withdrawal are:
Poland
Slovakia
The Baltics maybe, there were talks of money troubles in the beginning of the 2010 season...
Israel...mmm...probably not in the end, but I wonder if they'll actually have to have rehearsals on their holiday.
I hope Duna TV can take over if MTV can't and we'll see Hungary back. I miss all withdrawn countries.
Other countries that haven't confirmed participation yet:
Ireland (I think they will participate)
France (they are big 4, so they will definitely participate)
Belarus (who knows)
Russia (they will definitely participate)
Georgia (I think they will participate)
Israel (unknown, but I think they will participate in the end)
Bulgaria (I hope they stay)
Bosnia (I think they will participate)
Croatia (I think they will participate)
Slovenia (unknown)
Moldova
Slovakia
Poland
Latvia
Lithuania
@ Marko
I agree that Poland should stay, but they haven't confirmed their participation yet and I'm afraid they are withdrawing due to their recent poor results.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Poland must stay!!!!
I have a feeling some more countries will withdraw this year. Latvia and Lithuania (both among my favorite esc countries) are the most likely candidates to do so, followed by Slovakia, Slovenia and Poland. And maybe Moldova too? Let's wait and see.
@pashallis
yeap right !! thats why italys return wouldnt be good !!
so : the more such countries in eurovision so much the worse !!!
Italy's top televoting points would go to Romania (more romanians than in Spain), Albania, Moldova and Ukraine.
italy in eurovision again ??? i wish of course , but their top points would go to specific countries . not that it disturbs me , but some dumb loosers here would moan about diaspora again !!
so italy , when you wont drive them mad , then better stay away from eurovision !!
@ Juan
Really do people expect Italy to come back? I think it's more possible that China joins EBU than Italy returning...
I think you should be try to your best my roling eyes
You know that otherhand; are you really a serb? or are you a simple Angelic?
Your file is waiting in the sub-committee my sheker
Your file may come at any time on the agenda.
and it is possible to check again and re-opened.
ah ha ha ha ha ha
I guessed we'll have a 24 final contestants next year if Italy don't come back, because if they came back, I'm sure there will be a Big5 place awaiting them! lol
@ Lina
lol not that often, just twice
@Paschali only you and Madonna change so offen religions ha ha ha ha ha
OK! I will try my best!
Marko I have not a problem with you and I don't care you are Angelic or you are not Angelic, it is not so important for me but more important is your coımment about music and ESC. So people want to read your comment about music but you always insult to specific a few country and you support to the politic and nationalist hate and you speak here even Orthadox or another religions. And why? what a compare with this page about politics and religious issues? Why you fihting with countries? this your behaviours is not mean "irony" because hate and politic are haven't irony. Let we discussing about music and culture but not offensive. not insulted! OK?
Kiss and peace. OK?
rolling eyes LOOL

Have you read my comments about Sertab Erener from Turkey:
"Dime" is masterpiece comparing to trash, shit, garbage, rubbish "Every way that I can" I can't stand that pornographic entry, idiotism on the stage, screaming, sadistic and mentally weird performance, retarded entry!

I hate screaming Sertab, one of the worst winners in ESC, it promoted and encouraged future trash in ESC! I wish she never appeared in the contest!
Sanomi is so much better!
You see, I even never bashed Cyprus and Greece like that!
Mondy and Lina
But I'm not Angelic for God's sake, if I wrote once rolling eyes that doesn't mean I'm Angelic!
OK, i promise I will calm a bit coz I see you don't understand my way of bashing like other ppl do, but please if I write that I hate some Greek, Cypriot or Armenian entry don't be upset, I write that for all countries! I don't have anything with Angelic, come on... and don't pay attention to my discussions with AvatArmenia they are different, they are full of irony which seems you can't understand, so don't worry!
