SF aired documentary about Nella Martinetti

Broadcaster SF produced a documantary about Swiss entertainer Nella Martinetti, who also co-wrote some of Switzerland's most successful entries in the Eurovision Song Contest. The film is called Nella Martinetti - Ein Leben zwischen Applaus und Abgrund (Nella Martinetti - A life between the applause and the abyss).

The documentary deals with Nella Martinetti's career as a singer and songwriter as well as with her private life and her close relationship with the media. The singer herself says that she is "addicted to the spotlight" and that music has always meant everything to her. However, since the 1990s, she has mainly been in the spotlight due to the extensive coverage of her private live in the yellow press. In 2009, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

  • You can watch the full documentary (in German) here.

Nella Martinetti co-wrote four Swiss entries in the Eurovision Song Contest. In 1981, Peter Sue & Marc finished fourth with Io senza te and two years later, Mariella Farré came 15th in Io così no ci sto. In 1986, Daniela Simons finished second with Pas pour moi and in 1988, Céline Dion could win the contest with Ne partez pas sans moi. Various compositions by Nella Martinetti also competed in the Swiss national finals. Furthermore, in 1986, she won the first edition of the Eurovision Song Contest spin-off Grand Prix der Volksmusik with her own composition Bella musica.

I didn't know that the same person has written two eurovision legends : "Ne partez pas sans moi" and "Pas pour moi"...Nella Martinetti (although I have never heard of her till now) won my gratitude for the songs she provided in eurovision..

I am really sorry about Nella illness. I know basic German but enough to understand the documentary. "Io senza te" is one of the songs of my life.

Compliments to the makers of this documentary, really well made. I did not know more about the woman behind the lyrics of these Eurovision entries than that she was a singer herself. This was interesting and touching at the same time.
