Ukraine: NTU investigating Eurovision 2010 entry
Today, in Ukraine, media speculation was enriched over Alyosha's song 'To Be Free' as it maybe breaking one of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) rules which govern all participating countries at the Eurovision Song Contest.
The state broadcaster in Ukraine, NTU, today have released a statement regarding the above issue.
"Singer Alyosha, who on Saturday, March 20th, won the national selection for Eurovision 2010, today appeared in the center of a scandal. In musical circles of the young singer, real name is Olena Kucher, is accused of plagiarism when comparing the song 'To be free,' she entered in the qualifying competition with a composition 'Knock Me Out' performed by Linda Perry and Grace Slick. In connection with this we announce that the legal and international management of NTU and jury as a whole is studying the issue."
NTU is now examining the compliance of the song with EBU rules. If the song fails to meet the requirements of the EBU rules; "the artist who won the national selection will be offered in the short term to change the song," - said the general director of the National Television Company of Ukraine Egor Benkendorf.
NTU will publish the results of their investigation tomorrow.

i wonder why EBU is tolereting that behaviour ??
Because EBU wants to encash their nice moneys, simple as that!
oh god stop whatever s going on to ukraine !! it's far too ridiculous now..!! breaking the one rule after the other...!! i wonder why EBU is tolereting that behaviour ?? a big fuss for nothing anyway as her song is mediocre...but not another replacement for god's sake !!
Oh dear...how is possible 100 % plagiat...stupid...stupid...!
@ Botox_ Baby
What an idiotic ignorant statement you just made! If you don't care about Ukraine in ESC, why bother writing in this topic then? And as a matter of fact alot of people would miss them, unlike your country. Ukraine is one of the strongest competitors.
Your comment is nothing but ignorance and hate and there's not a single constructive thing in it. Do us all a favor and withdraw yourself thank you.
NTU's website announces that Alyosha is trying to find a new song to represent Ukraine in Oslo and that the internal jury is listening to songs at the moment. All official documents regarding the entry have to be submitted to the EBU by Friday 26th of March, and this includes a translation of the lyrics into French if I'm not mistaken. So Ukraine doesn't have a lot of time!

Can any singer give Alyosha a song?(for some money)
Is it possible ? If it is , then they should do it.
I don't think Ukraine should be disqualified for their unprofessional behaviour but I wish them not to reach the final this year!
i wonder if Ukraine still has time to submit the song or time is over and Ukraine is gonna be fined or withdrawn????
When the Georgian song was disqualified last year I believe the Georgian delegation was offered some time to find a different entry, so I presume that's what's gonna happen to Ukraine this year. It will take them a few days and then we'll have a third song from Ukraine, either a different song by Alyosha or the one by that guy who came third. Personally I would have loved to see Vasyl in Oslo, but if saving face is an issue here he's the least likely candidate.
Well I believe the latest is that NTU gave that blond girl the opportunity to find another song in 24 hours taht would be suitable as "To be free" can't be the entry.... I mean wtf.... I am just a tiny little bit annoyed with some of the Eastern European mentality....
Haha I actually find it rather funny
Oh dear...
DEAR UKRAINE,
JUST WITHDRAW FROM OSLO 2010!! IS OBVIOUS IS NOT YOUR DESTINY TO PARTICIPATE.... AND I DONT THINK MANY PEOPLE WILL MISS YOU!!
@sanka
In 2009, France has done an internal selection by choosing Patricia Kaas, and Patricia has decided herslef with which/what kind of song she wanted compete, so, is that also undemocratic? As I said, it depends with internal selections!
Dimitris
hehehe, yes!
P.S. I personally prefer NFs like MF and MGP.......
Me too! It's the best for us the core eurofans!Picking your favourite, getting to know with many singers/songs,anticipating for the final outcome...Sadly the 2010 N.Fs season is over
just waiting for the Ukrainian mess to clear out...
Dimitris is 100% right, i can't see problem with internal selections! Only if they turn into mes like in this case....otherwise no problem at all!
P.S. I personally prefer NFs like MF and MGP.......
Internal selections may not be democratic but they are legitimate and most of the times effective...We just got tangled in this conversation because of the ukrainian mess...
because last year i didnt , i dont visit the website often enough to read all the news/articles that are published and thankfully the topic was brought up here.
sanka
But you could read in articles that it was internal selection in France last year and also this year!
you didnt understand what i wrote. Clear internal selecion means it wasnt democratic , as i already wrote : if i say it about Ukraine its the same for France. So far i didnt have any idea how the French song was chosen.
sanka
Yeah, don't pretend that you don't know, please, France makes clear internal selection every year! But you like song and then you don't have any problem with that, and in Ukraine you have problems coz you don't like their ESC songs and genre they send! ehhh....Sanka!!
@ Marko - if it was internal, then is wasnt democratic - thats it
sanka
is internal selection of Patricia Kaas democratic selection? Can ppl choose between several songs/singers?
At the moment my comment had nothing to do with the result or placing of the Ukrainian song , what i ment is that the way their singer was chosen was very unfair to the other singers( as you laready know ), If someone represents his/her country then it should be people's choice. and about Turkey- it would be good if people can vote for the song. So far its basicly the same as Ukraine did
@sanka
Well, yeah it is, but it still depends! Turkey's method is really good for example, some music experts from our broadcaster tries to choose the best singer internally, and the chosen singer must prepare 3 songs, and from the 3 songs some professional juries choose the best song among the 3 prepared songs!
And our placings says it all!
But I can't say the same about other countries ( that internal selections are good )!
@ kenan- as alread discussed, the internal selection isnt democratic at all. That is why it all started.
Ukraine really goes on my nerves this year!
Why can't the broadcaster send another hot POP-songer internally? I'm really disappointed Ukraine, sorry, you couldn't continue your 'perfectness' like the last years!
