The United Kingdom sends Josh to the Eurovision Song Contest
Josh has won the public televote and hence will represent the United Kingdom in Oslo. Firstly, he had to qualify from the first round of the UK final, something he easily managed to achieve because he gained the jury's approval and kind words.

esctoday.com national final awards 2010
The 2010 esctoday.com National Final Awards will be held between April and May, which means between the national final season and the Eurovision Song Contest. We will repeat the same format with two rounds for nominations which was used this year - you can read how it works here. However, this time the individual polls for each country will always be held right after the national final, when the entries are still fresh. You can vote for your favourite performance not to qualify in the UK national final here. You can only vote for those acts that actually performed the song for Oslo.
In 2009, the United Kingdom was represented by Jade Ewen, who finished fifth in the final with her song It's my time. As a member of the big four, the country is already qualified for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 on 29th May.
The winning performance:

I wish people would stop saying 'I think this is a grower'.. they NEVER win Eurovision. You have 3 minutes to impress the millions of voters watching for the first time and if the song doesn't impress then, you've lost any chance of a battle. Although i don't like this version of the song,it has got hooks and needs a hook in the musical arrangement too. It's not one of the those songs which 'grows' on you and therefore at least has a better chance but we shall see with the final version.
Wow, i didn't know all that stuff about her, thanks for the info! so i guess there is some controversy there and that can only be good! lol. Well i watched the video clip today and i said under that thread that i does grow on me afterall. I am repeating what i said there, if it comes with a clever staging in Olso it can do really well and it will stand out from most songs this year (which is turning into a disaster!). I hope Germany places well this year because even when it deserves to do so it doesn't ( i still can't get over 'No no never' -2006). So good luck once more!
Dear Michalis, thank you for your response.
I think we had (and have) the same problem as the UK. The ARD was sending entries, which were not modern or representing enough. Even the >No angels< who are popular in Germany, got the most boring song for a contest, always without the support of the people.
(Another problem is that the big 4 do not have the chance to play the song twice, as any other country. Everye song was played twice when it comes to the final show. I think F, UK, SP and GER should play their songs during the semis as well, shouldn´t they. To be honest, I don´t want my country to be one of those Money-giving-states, it´s always an unpopular thing not to have to qualify or not? The other countries do hate that fact, I know.)
Lena is really björkish and she looks björkish and she talks björkish. In her first qualify show she was asked to sing another song, because her "My same" from Adele was difficult to play or sth and she only said, if she can´t sing that song she won´t sing anything. She loves Lisa Mitchell and is not used to stage performing. She is using to lipsticks, one with Fanta and one with Cola-Taste, just to have Mezzomix on her lips.
Most of the German people totally fell in love with her (me, too) and a few do not understand wants going on and they think she is untalented - they want more glamour and a big voice.
I promise you a very young, innocent and unique girl, always prepared to surprise you and having the fastest i-tunes download ever in Europe so far.
Of course good luck to both countries. I always keep an eye on my favorite neighbours. Enjoy ESC!
Greetings from Hannover!
Bennyfried 21, i couldn't agree more with you. I could never understand why it works (or doesn't work to be honest) like that. When i read about Waterman being behind the song (in 2010 - not in 1990!) i thought 'oh god'. Unfortunately i was proven right. I so wanted to like this one. It struggles to get anywhere and ends up being 'indifferent'. I think that there's no point in waiting for another version, the song will be the same and that won't change anything.
Germany's entry is weird which makes it interesting. I kind of like it and maybe it's a grower. Has anyone else commented on how she sounds incredibly like Bjork???
Good luck to both countries!
I am from Germany and most of my records and cds are ... of course BRRRITISH ;-)
I never understood why one of my favorite music-country sends songs like this to ESC. Sometimes they were as bad as the songs from my own country, but this time I guess we managed to get something more special in Germany (What do you think about Lena)?.
When will the UK recover their quality for this contest?
The UK is full of pop, fashion and style, but this song is not.
Viel Glück und liebe Grüße an eine tolle Nachbarnation ;-)
this guy really has a very good song ... so much better than the Israelian singer. I think his voice is so boring. and the song sound good too!! Go UK ...
just spotted Sam Sengelow from Gillingham, Kent. Me too!! As for Josh? I thought he would win from the start, best singer on the night, though my mum would disagree, lol, she preferred Alexis. Shame that Esme, fluffed the performance, she was singing quite well up to then. I am sure that by the finalks in May, the song will be a good polished version, and I think will do well, but again, maybe not a winner. Good luck Josh
MMM im not sure yet for this song
ok - to all those who thought 2009 showed the BBC was "taking the contest seriously". As I said then - 2009 was only ever about a vehicle for ALW - filling the gap with that year. Nothing more. It was never about Eurovision - just wanting a hit show for ALW.
Talking of which - have you seen the new trailer for the ALW Wizard of Oz talent search "Over The Rainbow". BBC1 just showed it before Eastenders and looks like they spent more on that trailer than Your Country Needs You. It has Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow on the yellow brick road.... Very snazzy. That is where the money, effort and er, TALENT, will be found.
Probably our worst song since Andy Abraham....after all the hard work done in 2009 when it looked like the UK was taking the contest seriously!!! Bottom 5 for us this time, the singers ok but the song is awful..might have been ok in the 1980's.
By the time Mike Stock has finished, it will sound like a different song, you'll see
@ Whatever ...in 7th HEAVEN ... [29486]
Josh won because he had by far the better vocal - he was the only one that could hold a note.
I don't like the UK entry this year, but sorry mate, the Greek entry is rubbish too. Though, Greece will get more votes thanks to the televoting of your friends.
Good job the uk doesnt vote for itself! Haha, i think its a great, positive and upbeat song that will do well! Stuff the rest of you 'doubters' lol! Good luck Josh!
It is such a dissapointment the UK song this year. I was actually in the studio for the National Final at the BBC. The studio was full of teenagers all friends and classmates of the six teenage artists performing. They knew nothing about Eurovision at all. It was as if Pete Waterman and been to several London colleges to find teenage so called "singers" to perform his average song. Most of them were off tune even after rehearsals....Josh was the only one who could hold a note. I think it's embarrassing that the UK are sending an amateur singer with a third rate song .....we will no doubt finish in the bottom four again this time!
If we went on the" My Music" messageboard on the bbc it may cause them to give a messageboard to us eurovision lovers it worked last year.I did post a thread on there a while ago,but if others did like last year they may give in................
The Greek song is terrible, it won't possibly get through the semi - finals!
On March 12th, IMO Josh did not sing this song as well as Alexis did, but he, most likely, got extra votes because of that smart hand-to-ear gesture.
Even though the UK's entry is called That sounds good to me, the GREEK song was also selected on March 12th and ...
... That sounds GRrrrreat to ME!

It just goes to show you that being likeable and having the ability to perform can be a deadly combination.
I'm not surprised to be honest that Caroline and Russ are a couple now - both of them are very smart and witty.
Maybe that's why Channel 4 chose them to be on Coach Trip.
Mark
You are absolutely right. I did know about their career in the 90s when Scooch was at its most successful.
I tell you, being likeable is a good quality to have as a person etc - it's a rare commodity I think these days.
Would you believe that we're actually taking about trying to make an emotional bond between yourself and a well-known personality.
But what is a well-known famous personnality if it isn't, dare I say it, another human being just like yourself!!!
Re the comment from Pete Waterman's website -
THAT SOUNDS GOOD TO ME!
Maybe, just maybe, London 2011 afterall
Caroline & Russ are both very down to earth accessible people. Caroline approached me in a Nightclub after a Scooch performance (earlier days prior to their eurovision attempt) & I found her to be one of the nicest chatty & charming ladies I have ever spoken to. They were a great pop group who worked together very well and actually liked each other's company and had fun unlike numerous other manurfactured pop groups.
Also, one of the couples on Coach Trip features a bloke called Paul from Gillingham in Kent, where I'm from, who met Matt when they were at the University of Sheffield.
What a coincidence that is!!!
I saw Harry Hill's TV Burp at the weekend and see not only did Caroline and Russ from Scooch get a mention on there for entering Coach Trip on Channel 4, but they got the honour (?) of singing our 2007 entry at the end of the show.
I've just watched the first few episodes they've been - I tell you what the same thing I thought about them when they entered the 2007 UK national final, that they are now in Coach Trip - they are still likeable and people at the moment want to keep them on the show.
I found out that after three years, Caroline and Russ are in fact a couple in real life now, as opposed to just going on this show as if it was The Generation Game.
One of the most surreal moments so far was them travelling to Belgrade and singing the Serbian national anthem on the coach!!!
you know i didnt like this song from the start but..........its a grower i think the full remixed and sorted version could actually do ok ..... wont win but will score quiet high :-)
With Mike Stock/Pete Waterman (&co) production skill ,trust me, this song WILL be a stong contender come the big night. A Mike Stock backing track used as a guide never ever sounds ANYTHING like the finished product which will be superb, you wait & see !
The show only got 2.9m (12.5%), a massive 4m down on the show that was in the same timeslot the week before. It was, unsurprisingly, blown out of the water by Coronation Street which was seen by 9.1m (37.7%) people at 8.30pm on ITV1.
Great to hear Mike Stock has recognised the disquiet at the song and its performance. We knew it was not going to be the final version but it has a long way to go before it can even be considered a challenger for this year's Eurovision.

Just time to take a breath and reply to all the various questions and comments on the subject of the new song for Europe.
The BBC have their way of doing things. On balance I am happy that Josh won the public vote. However, what I found most frustrating was having to record six different versions of ‘That Sounds Good To Me' incomplete and unfinished. Obviously until you know who has won you can't deliver the final version. This is what has made this year slightly unusual.
Nevertheless, I am now busy getting together the final version which will be significantly different from what has already been served up. I accept the comments that have been posted on the forum and I expect in a short while for everyone to be pleasantly surprised at the end result.
The thinking behind this song is that Eurovision is a theatrical event as much as a song contest. So our song has elements of a show number alongside dance pop. The lyric has a general theme and is not gender specific or too personal.
We need to spice up the performance generally, but in Josh we have a safe pair of lungs who can deliver in these highly charged pressurised circumstances. This is great news for me because we can concentrate on delivering a thumping and exciting mix without worrying if the singer can cope.
Actually the song works in all ways and styles. I have tried it with just a piano accompaniment and it still works. The question is, what style is best? In that regard I am waiting until after Josh has been to the studio and I have recorded his vocals. Then I can tailor make the track to support him. I have not heard him sing in a studio context and this will reveal quite a lot, I think, and lead me to some answers.
Enough for now. Josh is working with me this week and I shall know a lot more after that. Thanks for your messages of support. This has been a bit of a tough call for many reasons. I don't ask myself the question "can we win Eurovision?" I just want only to do a great job and, believe me, it isn't easy because so many things are out of your control. But anything is possible to do.
Mike
