I am not getting my hopes up about the UK song at all. Everything he seems to have done in the past is not my thing... Bananarama, Kylie and whatever else that sucks. And Steps?? Well, I am not 12 anymore and this is not the 90s anymore.

But Thorazin haven't told me it's uptempo, he told me it's catchy pop, maybe it's not uptempo, but probably it is!
@ thorazin, did you listen to the same interview as the rest of us? pete did not say it was an uptempo song, he said that a succesful song in eurovision has to catch your attention in the first 8 seconds
well the uk won in 97 anyway. personally i think steps would have done better with " deeper shade of blue" or " better best forgotten
I hope UK sends a good song in Oslo
Go U.K. !!!!!!!!
@ Thorazin..
He did not say 5678 was written for Eurovison. He was asked of all his songs which would have done well in the competition. He said he thought 5678 would have done well, we are talking 1997 here and to be fair it would have. It was the song that actually kick started Steps career, who were infact HUGE!
could it turn out to be something like 'Lay Your Love On Me' by BWO? thats cheese and it wouldn't be half bad
Jonny
OK, thanks!!
It can be promising for me, especially with good performers!!
Good luck to the UK. I cross my fingers for a good song, réally good. Not just average..
Marko
He said that its a very catchy pop song, which grabs your attention in the first 8 seconds or something, and that he thinks the best song that he has written for Eurovision, would be "5,6,7,8" by Steps : http://www.youtube.c(...)&feature=related And THAT is why i'm not hopeful
I'm so scared yet excited at the same time. I can't see the BBC being pleased with another Scooch/Daz Sampson entry, So I'm guessing the chance of that is non existent. One of the contestants for tomorrow on his introduction said "The song is really good, I assure you" which sounds promising
UK folk know it's is most likely to be an up-tempo song with his past history etc. Pete waterman is a good producer, Mike Stock is a good writer. Same Difference's We R One shows that for modern refrence, It's actually quite catchy and yes it has a 'cheese' element to it. If our song is anything like that then I shall be one happy proud Brit
P.S 5678 would have done well back in the day, which is what he meant in his interview I'm guessing (Haha! I was actually listening to it yesterday)
Jonny
What did you read about that song? Tell just smth!
Bring on the cheese refers to esc. Why would 'you bring on' something of yours it doesn't make sense?!
DEAR UK !
i baging you to ssend good entry lmao !
i Bet with my freind UK Israel or Slovakia gonna win he says UK wont
SO PLEASEEEEEEEE! DONT DISAPOINT ME! i hate to lose ;p
Btw I don't know if there will be a webcast, but I doubt it. The webcast last year was technically illegal (licence fees and all that) so I don't think that if you live outside of the UK you'll be able to watch it live, sorry
i hope it uptempo and Uni5 or Josh 2 win manchester or birmingham 2011
well Melodifestivalen proves that cheese can be successful at eurovision...but for some reason the UK hasn't had much success with it. I'm really interested to hear the song anyway

It is difficult to get excited about a French entry called Allez Ole OK, or whatever it is, though, n'est-ce pas? Quelle horreur.
Dominik
Eurovision is one huge camembert. Everything Pete Waterman has ever done has been cheese, correct me if I am wrong, so it is a good marriage. But there is a big difference between cheese and corn, which iswhat Scooch were.
Paul said in an interview that the song will be cheesy. "Bring on the cheese!" were his exact words... expect something along the lines of UK 2007...
@John I hope he keeps his word. One interview he says it's a SAW song others just in name. As I said before Pete is a windup merchant.
I am very curious about the UK! Hoping for something good! Actually I have high hopes for all the Big4s this year! Spain is my clear number one untill now. Will this be the year when the Big4 are finally all to be found in top 10? (eh..wishful thinking, I guess...).
Phantom I wouldn't worry Pete has already said before songs like that just don't bring home the gold anymore. That being said I'll be annoyed if it's not at least on the same level of quality as Ireland's entry.
Pete does keep talking about Making Your Mind Up and 5678 which were great for their time but i don't think would go down well in eurovision nowadays, so i'm hoping for the song to be up-tempo, but not cheesy. Everything sounds promising so far though.
Ah...London 2011...02 Arena...Italy returns and, oh, must have drifted off there.
@ w g
I couldn't have put it better myself. This is a common mistake, even among native English-speakers.
Come on UK! lets send something good pleeeeeeeeease. Hoping for something lively this year
I wish Eurovision websites would stop misusing the verb 'to speak out'. If someone 'speaks out', it usually means they have finally made a public statement about something after remaining silent about it for a long time, normally in controversial circumstances. For example you could describe Princess Diana as 'speaking out' when she gave that famous interview about her personal life in the 1990s. Alternatively you could say that the guy from De Toppers 'spoke out' against homophobia when he was in Moscow. But it's not 'speaking out' when someone just talks about something that they are involved in.
