Eric Saade and Anna Bergendahl

Sweden's breakthrough artists talk to esctoday.com

In the first of our interview articles from Melodfestivalen 2010, esctoday.com met with two of the breakthrough artists this year, Melodifestivalen debutants Eric Saade and Anna Bergendahl, who are both competing to represent Sweden at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo.

In a competition that has often been won by more experienced artists and performers who have entered the competition several times, Eric and Anna both broke through the traditions with victories in their semi finals.

Eric Saade won the second semi final with Manboy, winning acclaim for his stage presence and hugely popular performance. The song became an early favourite to win the competition and according to esctoday.com readers, is currently second favourite behind fellow Melodifestivalen newcomers, Timoteij.

Anna Bergendahl stormed to victory in the fourth semi final in Malmo with her Bobby Ljunggren penned entry, This is my life. Currently in third place in our readers' poll, Anna spoke to esctoday.com about coming fifth in Idols and her Irish roots, which may help her score with the Irish jury as Sweden will see six nations voting in Saturday's final (read more here).

You can watch both interviews on the esctoday.com youtube channel, www.youtube.com/esctodaytv.

I like Manboy, although, Skånish (Skåne, the southest region of Sweden) people are a disgrace
to the image that Swedes speak great English.

    Marko,
Well, I can't share your enthusiasm over this final. No matter what wins it won't be anything great or interesting to me. I'm more excited to hear the Serbian and French songs. :P ;)

Have they released any exact voting results from the semi finals? For all we know they could have all won their semi by a VERY small margin. Anything can turn and anything can happen in the final. Especially with juries from all over...

I think the jury will vote for: PETER , SALEM, ANDREAS, JESSICA

I think they public will vote for: ERIC, ANA, TIMOTEJ, DARIN

Wow I loved Anna's interview, very sincere and straightforward, very polite and to the point, humble, honest...mature!

    My top 4 are:
    1.Pernilla
2.Timoteij (they will score the highest in Oslo Imo even a win is an option)
    3.Ola
    4.Anna

Any of them would be great ! Lycka Till!!! (L)

Anna is my favourite and I am confident that she can win this year in Oslo! I also like Jessica Andersson a lot, but her ballad won't stand out from the competition in Eurovision... Timoteij, Eric Saade and Darin could be good choices, but Anna is a possible winner :) so go Anna!!!!! This is my life!!! :)

The biggest "breakthrough" in MF are the totally unknown Timoteij girls who came from nothing and won their semifinal over already local known Darin! :)
