6 countries help decide

The international juries in Sweden revealed

The Swedish tour of Melodifestivalen 2010 to select the country's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo in May comes to a finish this Saturday. The winner will be decided by 50% televote and 50% jury vote, but this year six Swedish regional juries have been replaced by six international juries in Russia, Ireland, Norway, Greece, Serbia and France. There will still be five Swedish regional juries.

The public vote will remain open for five minutes during the jury vote, so the public can still call in their votes. Project Manager Thomas Hall from SVT says the selected countries are meant to evenly and widely represent the “musical regions” of Europe taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest. This should hopefully give the Swedish home audience an idea how international viewers might be judging the chances of the Swedish Melodifestivalen finalists at Eurovision Song Contest, says Mr Hall .

The voting lines will open at 8 pm CET, right at the beginning of Saturday’s final, and there will be only one round of voting.

The Swedish final will take place once again at Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, where press conferences and rehearsals ahead of Saturday's event start today. Esctoday.com will be reporting live from Stockholm over the coming days.

Unfortunately, the information in this article isn't correct. According to SVT there will be 11 jury groups, out of which 6 are international ones. The five remaining are from Sweden. So the international jury's decision will basically only count as 1/4 of the total decision concerning who Sweden will send to Eurovision.

I believe the winner is already out there.... amongst the 29 first chosen songs.

I seriously doubt that! But it's too early to predict anyway...

As for Sweden...I don't like the international juries concept...It's a national decision...Anyway...I don't really know what the greek jury will go for..It depends on who they are...If they are typical eurovision fans, they will vote for Timoteij,Eric,Pernilla etc...If they are professional musicians etc they will vote for Anna and Salem and maybe Darin(i hope not for Peter). All in all,It's an amazing M.F this year!

LOL the thing with the international juries is just stupid. I mean, if you want to know what people from these countries think you should ask hundreds or thousands of people from these countries, not just 1 or a few people. makes no sense at all! Just send what YOU like! Sweden wont win with this stupid idea sorry. Love Melodifestivalen :)

Well, if those juries are gonna be like the Portuguese people who chose Filipa, then I guess we're in big trouble..

    @Alyson Wunderland
Well duuuuuuuh. I could have said it was an American accent, but was it necessary? My reply was to Luis and what HE said didn't explain why Didrik pronounce the way he does. But thanks for both of your unneeded comments trying to prove how "smart" you are... *clap, clap* How about dropping the subject now? I know I will.

who will be in the Greek international Jury?

    Timoteij in Town [60047]
    Thu 11 Mar 2010 17:07:48

    @ joerg bauch

I kind of agree, but our own juries have proven so many times that they have NO clue what would work in Eurovision.

But agree that it might be a risk since the international ones might not vote for Swedish interest at all, just for their own and therefor vote for the crap entries to make the chances higher for their own countries' entries in ESC.

I dont understand Sweden. Why international Juries? This is a national Final, not an international Final. So for me it doesnt matter, what people from outside Sweden thinks, which Song will be the best for Sweden. It can also be, that the international jury choose the worst song in the Final, so their own entries had more Chances at ESC.

    if not, then Pernilla/ola

    Thu 11 Mar 2010 16:22:02

    @ Salem Al Fakir FTW

Timoteij is obviously influenced by other type of music aswell... there's no denying... but it is still VERY Swedish!

The whole chorus is very much Swedish folk... the music is a fusion by different styles... the lyrics is about love in Swedish summer and could refer to Swedish midsummer which is a VERY local cultural thing

What's Swedish with the rest of the songs? Except for the awful schlager på Pernilla? Well NOTHING!

I thought this was a Swedish affair. As to the concept of 'musical regions', I consider it highly debatable. Which set of criteria was used when selecting these regions? Was there some kind of research conducted before the choice was made? I am blabbering by now... I can only hope that these jurors are professional musicians or work in the music field somehow. Good luck.

    @ james

They don't have that big influence. It's about 60% of the total jury vote.

Don´t you think that this juries can choose not the best entry, thinking that they would this way protect their own countries from a very Strong Swedish song?? They would be cheeting!!

    @ Sara

    Yes, Salem is my favorite!

    @ timoteij

The greek jury WON'T give max pts to Ola. They didn't vote for Soraya last year whose song was also composed by Stassos and had more greek elements than "Unbreakable". I actually think Timoteij are much more likely to get high pts from the greek jury.

It doesn't explain why Didrik pronounce it that way, it just explains what it is.

He is pronouncing it like that because he is singing in American English. If you listen to the rest of his song you can easily hear that he's got several other features of American English, for instance the very distinctive post-vocalic R. As as long has he has decided to sing in American English, there is no other way to say that. If you think that's silly, then you presumably also think that 300 million Americans speak silly.

So why does he sing with an American accent? Why not? In my experience it is typical for Norwegians with a decent command of English to speak with an American accent, so that his hard is yours is therefore very appropriate in my opinion.

Cos I am not Swedish I would like for you to tell me who has the highest chance based on their popularity and fans in Sweden ?!?!

Very interested to hear any opinion by a local Swede :D

I wish for Timotej or Saade :D
