In 2009, Estonia was represented by Urban Symphony, who finished third in the second semi final and sixth in the final with their song Rändajad. It was the first time since the introduction of the semi final stage in 2004 that the country made it to the final. In 2010, Estonia will compete in the first semi final of the Eurovision Song Contest on 25th May.

Lenna Kuurma Is the best
Love loads of these songs so Estonia can't really choose wrong!
Love Astronaut and Rapunzel but I would my personal fave is Violina and Rolf Junior. So darn catchy and after some miserable attempts by Rolf this is a real surprise!
Liris Vesik*
Please don't choose Iris Verk

Hi there
Few hours before the event I’d like to express some of my thoughs about the songs and the overall concept of Eesti Laul. Comparing with previous year the level of songs has gone up imo, almost every entry is better that last year winner which didn’t impress me much, but wasn’t really bad either (my 6th favourite in 2009 selection). There are more variety this time, though a certain line, principle is still present in the jury choice, but it’s obviosly different from eurotrash-supportive Paadam’s company. I don’t know if some interesting artists were intentionally fend off or they just didn’t want to take part, but at least now those songs which didn’t get to top10 are not held in secret and everyone can judge how good or bad the jury choice actually was. I listened to about 50 non-qualifiers and have to admit I’m quite satisfied with jury overall, however there are 3-4 songs I would prefer to swich up in top10. As for existing lineup then here’s my short review of it (in order of performing today).
1. 3 Pead – Poolel teel
Wow, that’s the biggest surprise for me this year. The band is well-known among Estonian indie folk fans. Their music in general is actually more ethereal soft, and poetic, while „Poolel teel“ sound a bit darkvawe-ish, hence mysterious and hypnotic. When I heard it first time it hooked me in and I could get it out of my head. However now I actually started to get tired of it but it’s still my favourite this year. [9.5/10]
2. Marten Kuningas & Mahavok - Oota mind veel
Another strong entry, but I feel it lacks some emotion and sense of style by performer, which naturally comes with bigger experiencce. The song reminds me to some Estonian 80’s prog-rock hits which is no surprise as Mahavok is backing the boy up. Overall it’s rhytmic, catchy, quite enjoyable but I don’t see it as winner though [7.5/10]
3. Mimicry – New
This was the first song I heard. In fact I discovered it before I knew it’s part of the contest and before it even got selected into final 10. Mimicry is pretty much a new name of Depoo, which was one of the most exciting and promising youth bands in Estonia. I don’t know why Depoo had to break up, I guess they just had different views on how they should continue and what kind of music to make. Nonetheless Kene and Paul formed Mimicry changing music style from punkish inde rock to electrotrash bringing new rise to their ideas. Once again I have to admit I’m totally crazy for Kene’s voice, however the song itself is rather an album filler than free-standing hit. [8/10]
4. Tiiu Kiik - The one and only love
The singer I had closest contact with – shy metalgirl who left behind powerful guitar riffs to concentrate on airy ambient music. Obviosly I keep my fingers crossed for her, but having heard many of her other composings I’m slightly disappointed. I was expecting more pop oriented song but she lost some magic with it as well. It seems a bit outbalanced for me but still extremely romantic sincere and mindblowing. Tiux ftw!!! [7.5/10]
5. Violina feat. Rolf Junior - Maagiline päev
Oh, this is certainly not my cup of tea, but I can approve it being in final. It’s Rolf’s third attempt at Estonian preselection and… the worst one. I understand it may appeal many here and I can see why but it still leaves me indifferent. [3/10]
6. Disko 4000 - Ei usu
Ex Slide-Fifty guys, Paul Oja and ninjagirl Piret together can not mean anything good, but surprise surprise it is. Simple, monotonous catchy melody mixed with naïve lyrics… ala “I don’t believe that truth can be found with a lamp, I don’t believe that peace can be brought with a tank. Me with you, we can concure the world together” Silly, I know. But it’s brilliant. I love it. Yet Piret is still not as good as Hannaliisa to perform song like that… [9/10]
7. Iiris Vesik – Astronaut
I was really glad when Kreisiraadio won over that girl two years ago and I hope someone can do that favour again this time. Ok, she actually improved a bit. That “Ice-cold story” was pure eariness. She has to grow up and stop acting like a wannabe, form her own style, image. Till then, sorry darling, NO. [2.5/10]
8. Lenna Kuurmaa – Rapunzel
I don’t like Lenna, I’m not positive about her attempts to re-establish herself after miserable career in VN but it’s not about her anyway. It’s Waico Eplique (read: Vaiko Eplik) in charge and that change the whole thing. Well obviously Vaiko is cool, who would disagree, but usually when he offers his song to someone else it simply doesn’t suit that someone else. Moreover Vaiko always keep the best stuff to himself thus I wasn’t very hopeful for this entry. But it proved me wrong. The song is soo girlish that it actually fits Lenna pretty well, however the Vaiko’s handwriting is still recognizable. Might be the winner, will score good both from jurors and televoters. [8/10]
9. Groundhog Day - Teiste seest kõigile
A solid pop-rock track. There’s nothing really to point out, it’s enjoyable but forgettable. Anyway that’s a good promo to the band, hope to hear more of them in the future. [5.5/10]
10. Malcolm Lincoln – Siren
At first I didn’t like it much. I sort of wished it had more complex concept. It seemed kinda… oh lame? But later (I suppose video influenced me a bit) I looked at it from different angle. I discovered this song is about me myself and I believe many will feel that too. It’s not an entry for ESC stage, it’s something that has to whirl in your mind and not in front of your eyes. Nevertheless Malcolm Lincoln is still a dumb artist name… [8.5/10]
All in all I have to say I wish ESC would be a contest for new and ambitious artists. I don’t want to see same faces participating there again and again, even less same music styles. Therefore despite giving high ratings to both ninja girls I won’t be very pleased if any of them will win. Thus if I find my mobile phone I probably dial numbers with 01 and 04 in the end tonight…
Thanks.
Violina feat.Rolf Junior and Iiris Vesik are my favorites to win. Good luck to Estonia
Good Luck ESTONIA!
I like Iiris , Malcolm and Tiiu Kiik
Don't know anything about their live performance yet
So the format remains the same as last year, when jury fortunately put out Laura and gave the victory (and a well deserved place in the whole contest) to Urban Symphony, so maybe they'll surprise us again this year.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to watch it, it's one of the best NF this year.
I really hope for Violina feat. Rolf Junior or Iiris Vesik.
Last year Urban Symphony was great please send a great song like that this year. LOVE HUGS AND KISSES FM TURKIYE
One of the best national finals this year!
I really like Malcolm, Iiris, Tiiu Kiik, Mimicry, Groundhog Day and Lenna!
May the best song win tonight!
although i know that the stage should look like a fairytale during Lenna's performance , i think the outcome was rather silly, It looked more like a JESC or birthdayparty. Still hope her voice is better tonight
"Rapunzel" & Lenna!
GO ESTONIA GO!!
Super hit! One of the best of this year overall!!
Rapunzel: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapunzel

No matter where
Mars may be
I can feel what is right for me
there are more ways than we think
and to trust our way is what sets us free!!
Let's hope so, Marko.
Shevek
But "Destiny" was also different than ESC stuffs! That's why I hope for Iiris
, when I come back tonight I hope I will be happy with results!!!!!
At least in one of 4 countries!
Marko, I loved their performances (the ones by Iiris and Tiiu). However, they are so different from what people are used to in ESC that I fear for them. I am keeping my rank the way it is, though. I can only hope that Estonians in general go for that. Last year, televoters gave 'Destiny' their preference, so I am not very optimistic as regards to these two.
Shevek
What do you think about Iiris's performance?
I have been watching the rehearsals (thanks Marko and Turan for the links). The stage presentations are in general quite simple and good; I have to say that 'Siren' works very well live. I suspect victory will be decided between Lenna and Violina feat. Rolf Junior.
Enjoy the show, Sanka!
IRIS IRIS IRIS IRIS IRIS

PLEASE ESTONIAN'S VOTE FOR IRIS...
After 2009 I'm sure Estonia will impress in 2010 and Iris on the ESC stage could win With a performence as good as her rehersal
Urban symphony's new single , what they will perform tonight http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=hknDzHa4ZEc
and overally i wont worry too much about the outcome , just going to go and enjoy the concert in the hall.
Best NF this year IMO
Good luck Estonia
Sanka, OK, thanks!
Best wishes to RAPUNZEL! I'd like to see TIIU in Oslo, too, just for its originality!
both Jury and televote will give their points , from 1 to 10 and the two acts that got the most points will get into the final. and in the final only viewers can vote.
Sanka
Please can you remind me, how many acts are in the superfinal? I forgot!
