Semi final Unser Star für Oslo

Results: Two acts qualified in Germany

Tonight, the semi final of Unser Star für Oslo, the German performer selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 was held. Four acts competed and two of them were chosen for the national final.

The following two acts have qualified for the national final this Friday, 12th March:

  • Lena Meyer-Landrut
  • Jennifer Braun

The results

The qualifiers were chosen in two rounds of voting. After the first round, the bottom act in the televoting was eliminated. Kerstin Freking, who had performed Hands clean by Alanis Morissette was the unlucky one. After the second round, another singer had to leave the competition: Christian Durstewitz, who had performed I'm yours by Jason Mraz and In your hands by Charlie Winston.

The two qualifiers will compete in the German national final. Three songs will be presented first, and the favourite will become the song for Oslo. The two performers will then both perform the song and the winner will be eventually chosen.

esctoday.com poll results

The esctoday.com poll voters agreed with the choice. Lena Meyer-Landrut (50.0%) and Jennifer Braun (17.9%) were the top two in the poll while Kerstin Freking and Christian Durstewitz tied for third place (16.0% each).

In 2009, Germany was represented by Alex Swings, Oscar Sings! with the song Miss kiss kiss bang. The duo finished 20th in the final with 35 points. As a big four country, Germany is directly qualified for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 on 29th May.

Holger,
yes, I know. I'm just saying that unless someone loves both the song and the singer, it will be a compromise and it shouldn't be a compromise.

@Mina X

You can choose the song from Jennifer you like most and you can choose the song from Lena you like most separately, so in the final round it's the most popular song from Jennifer vs. the most popular song from Lena.

Performing under a certain flag is the main thing nowaday.

Maybe people love certain songs or artists even if the vocal performance is not good...Besides,sometimes We see overrated songs raching a top-10 place due to the fact they were written by a well-know song writer...Cheesy,corny,below average but still successful eurovision-wise.

On Friday, Jennifer will sing 3 songs especially written for her and so will Lena. Therefore there will be 6 songs in total

That makes sense but I consider it unfair. What if I like one of Lena's song but I like Jennifer more..or vice versa?
Very, very, very confusing selection.
The Uk went about it much better last year in my opinion.

Best of Luck Germany :) (L)

OK, let's agree! :D

"But that's more excited than regular way imo!"

Well Marko, let's agree to disagree on this point. :D

there is one thing that ruins them completely for me, the duels system.
But that's more excited than regular way imo! :D
Even if sometimes my favorites are facing in the first round, but still it's interesting system!

@Shevek Urras

As the final is broadcast on ARD, there'll be a webcast on eurovision.de, I guess. ;)

Thanks, Holger Krause. Will there be a webcast or will they keep on doing what they have done until now?

On Friday, Jennifer will sing 3 songs especially written for her and so will Lena. Therefore there will be 6 songs in total.

In the first round, voters will select the best song for each singer.
In the second round, voters will select the "Star for Oslo".

Brian L

Thank you for the information. Now I got it. Enjoy the final!

About the Scandinavian second chances: their relevance is debatable but there is one thing that ruins them completely for me, the duels system. It's an easy way to increase the ratings, I guess. It distorts the purpose of selecting the best song.

If Mira Craig qualified from the second chance I will like them even more! :D :D

Marko

I can understand that. The best thing about any second chance so far has been that 'Snälla snälla' made it to the final last year!

Btw, second chance heats are the most annoying and ridiculous thing imo. It's just a way to make even more money from tele and sms voting ...
:D :D LOL That's quite true, but I love them coz I always can see some performancas of songs I like for the second time and many songs in MF I liked qualified from the second chance! :D

Marko

I can understand that you don't like this format (neither do I, I love traditional NFs) but why shouldn't it be good for ESC? And why should you know? At least it is the best for ESC in Germany ... but I won't start this discussion again.

People, you forget something very important. The winner is and will always be an exraordinary and individual performance. The audience doesn't want to see a girl who sings powerful rock songs or something similar. And therefore, you see, Lena is the best choice.

We will see, wich songs are chosen for the two.

btw, Lena did an incredibly job yesterday.

Sven, 14, Germany

I much prefer NFs organized like Croatia's, Moldova's, Portugal's and so on.
Me too, this is not good for ESC! :(
Even internal selection is better, but typical NFs are the best! Especially MF and MGP type with four semis, second chance and final! (K) :D :D

I am waiting for the songs. Good luck, ladies! :)

Jenny is my favorite for german final on friday. I saw her live on stage and it´s amazing how powerful her voice is. She will rock the studio again, and when the song will be a pop/rock song then she´ll do it better than Lena i think. Lena is more individual than Jenny, but how she acts on stage is kind of annoying. So i´ll keep my fingers crossed for Jenny!!! Jenny 12 Points!!!

No it's not revenge!! :D :D
I just like her more than Lena and I want to see her in oslo for Germany! :D But that won't happen not coz I want her :D, but coz Lena is big favorite in Germany! :( And then i only can hope song will be good!

LOL @ Lena having a weird voice! yeah it's left of centre but if ur not used to real singers and music then for sure you wont like her! I'm so happy Lena is in the final. I hope she wins!
I'm aware that she only suits a real indie style of music, which is too real for esc.. but i dont give a toss! I'd be so proud of germany if they showed some balls and sent something really modern, contemporary and slightly edgy! VIEL GLUECK DEUTSCHLAND!
