Maltese Eurovision version refined

Thea Garrett records new version of My dream

This year's Maltese representative Thea Garrett flew to Frankfurt in Germany to record the Eurovision version of the song My dream.

Before departing from the Malta international airport, the 17 year old artist said that she was excited and eager to hear the finished product. Thea Garrett will have the second opporutnity to work in an international studio.

Malta Eurosong coordinator Peter Busuttil is accompanying Thea in Germany. The composer of the Maltese entry, Jason Cassar said that the musical arrangement of the song will be enhanced with the use of live instruments which will permit Thea's voice to shine even more. Cassar explained how he was in continuos contact with the recording engineers in Germany and Sweden where mainly the mastering of the song will take place. Following the vocal recording in Germany, Thea Garrett is expected to fly back to Malta in order to plot her promotional campaign along with the national broadcaster PBS.

Meanwhile there is no date when the new version will be released. It is strongly believed that the Eurovision version will be revealed within the proximity of the Head of the Delegations meeting when Joe Dimech (head of the Maltese delegation) will hand the Maltese Eurovision entry in Oslo.

Thea Garrett will represent Malta in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Oslo.

No one ever expected Iceland to place 2nd last year. Our song isn't one of the best but you've got to give Thea some credit, She's got a good voice. Also compared to the other entries this year I myself believe that she's got a chance if they present the whole package well which I believe they do.

@ Axel

Remember Iceland last year? All the negative comments over here about the dress etc.. Look at what happened, She owned the Semi Final and managed to place 2nd. Same goes for the UK, everyone said it was old fashioned and dull.. even I said so myself and see what happened. Jade managed to get 5th..

@Waylon,

I love how it's always the same with our song. We're still months away from the contest. It's still VERY early to judge. Everyone keeps judging the song and the whole package as seen at the Malta Euro Song when all of you know that was at it's earliest stage. Wait for the final product before you start criticizing as many changes are now being discussed.

I think that now she's the main contender for the 17th position of semi-1. The song is absolutely forgettable.

She is okay, but the seagul at the back is really so stupid. one of the average entries this year, but since it is a very weak contest malta might scrape through

I heard that the figure behind Thea will still be present in a different form so do not worry people, the big beak should not be there anymore and the act will not be scary ! :) Nonetheless, I think Thea has a good song with brilliant vocals.

Even though I am Maltese, I think she should rank between 7-10 at this point having one of the better ballads and one of the stronger vocals. I am sure that the orchestrated version will be much better !! :)

this is going to be such a boring contest..... too many ballads and too many artists trying to show off (scream) their vocal abilities...... i remember te previous years i liked to listen to the songs over and over again till the contest nights but this year i am not in the mood to listen to most of the songs twice!!!! the best by far is Turkey... good luck from Greece

The ballads this year are just awful most of them. Malta has one of the better ballads. Who knew...

I'm sure Thea and the rest of the maltese team are going to do their best for Malta. All of you need to give her a chance.. Now about the bird, It's staying because it holds a BIG part of the song (see lyrics below). So I suggest to all of you, give her a chance. It's still very early to judge.

Like a seagull on the waves
And the sun will shine
Upon your face
Just believe,
Follow your heart and make it happen
Grow much brighter and we’ll say..

Malta chose a very boring ballad yet again. It's not even a good ballad! The funniest part is that scary bird.

There are several entries this year that goes in the category "ballads with female singers": I dont think Malta stands a chance. Only one of these ballads I like is Portugal (partly because of the beautiful language). As for Malta, Ireland, Georgia - I really dont like any of them. Doesn't help if the singers are good. It will be intersting to see which one of them will qualify (as Chiara managed to do that last year with her horror-entry I am sure one or more of this years ballads will get to the final as well).

i thing nothing can save this song :( sorry Malta, i really can't listen it

Kathrin Schmidt [43233]

She and Sieneke really look like they are at least 35 years old and not 17.

It is a nice entry but it sounds so typical! To be honest these kind of Eurovision entries indicate the thought "if you have heard one, then you have basically heard all of them".

It is pleasant song but nothing major, sorry :(

Best of Luck Malta ;) (L)

For me this is not the best, but not the worst ballad this year!
The best ballads are Croatia, Ireland and Portugal!! (K)

My ratings of ballads chosen so far;
1) Ireland - "Its for you"
2) Croatia - "Lako je sve"
3) Georgia - "Shine"
4) Norway - "My heart is yours"
5) Malta "My Dream"
6) Ukraine "I love you"

Then there is quite a few mid tempo songs that could be considered as ballads by some such as "What for" and "Me and my Guitar" ..
I doubt Malta will make an improvement to their song. Chiara's song went last year from ok to total bull when she re-recorded it..

This song needs a complete makeover in order to be in any way a competitor... lyrics need changed in places so they actually rhyme, there need to be melodic changes to make the song flow better, and the entire thing needs enhanced so it sounds more like a song rather than the painfully dull experience that it currently is.

sabi

Mdina at night is one of my favourite places on Malta, too. I am not much of a party guy, and thus I more or less avoided Paceville. I went to Axis a few times though, the place was terribly popular 10 years ago ..

Charlotte

My top ballads are Spain (sorry), Belgium, and Croatia. Israel will be there too if you choose one of the two songs you've mentioned. Georgia is next to Malta way down on my list ...

togravus...I do agree with you on the Malteze entry, I think it's boring and quite old fashioned best ballads this year are Croatia, Georgia and Israel (Lean/Milim) Imho

Teaching German and conducting research for my PhD thesis ... I still visit Malta every year (because of friends & gardens). 300 year old house in a sleepy village sounds nice. I lived in Triq Norfolk, but it's been more than 10 years now ...
