Ireland: Tubridy excited about first time Eurosong show
Speaking to RTÉ.ie, he said of tonight's event, which is part of a 'Late Late Show' special: "The last twelve months have been just a series of firsts and this is one of them."
Ryan Tubridy took over 'The Late Late Show' from Pat Kenny after a 10 year reign in September 2009. "The first 'Late Late Show' was amazing. 'The Late Late Toy Show' was one of the best night's of my life, and this is probably the most curious of them."

"I wouldn't be Mr Eurovision, by any stretch of the imagination, but I respect what it is and I enjoy what it is and I'd be one of the ones who'd look at it with an arched eyebrow, and enjoy it." says Tubridy.
"But I wouldn't knock it because it's ours and it's an Irish thing and it is a source of pride. We need a lift, now more than ever. Every year we're hoping 'maybe this year we'll break through' but I think going through it like this, like a national song contest... I think the method of picking the song is really good. It's real songwriters, real singers and it's very democratic."
Speaking about past 'Eurovision' entries, Tubridy said: "I love Johnny Logan... J-Lo, as I call him."
Johnny Logan (ESC 1980, 1987, 1993), Dana (ESC 1970), Michael Ball (ESC 1992) and Marty Whelan (ESC Irish commentator) are due to appear on tonight's 'Late Late Show Eurosong Special'.
Watch the show tonight at 22:35 CET on RTÉ ONE and through esctoday.com here.

If she can sing it great tonight I think top 10 in Europe..I think more instrumental elements are needed and a stronger chorus and it may win Eurovision
Whoever has ears to hear...
It's amazing how even faces repeat themselves among this year's ESC hopefuls (and candidates). Moreover, each Irish hopeful actually belong to a different (past) era in pop music:
Leanne Moore: She looks like Selma in the early 2000s, and her song sounds like a Wilson-Phillips reject back in the early 1990s
Lee Bradshaw: He looks like Christian Slater meets (Regina's singer last year), and his song is pure 1980s' pop.
Michael Graham: He looks like Anabel Conde 1995 minus make-up, and his song starts like an Elton John's Tiny Dancer rip-off, moves along like an exact Elton-Billie Joel halfway, and even has a Joel's Honesty's musical arrangement.
Monica Ivkic: She curiously looks like (name a Maltese hopeful that has not made it). The song is Aguilera's Candyman no-trans-fat (or punch) copy. As someone said, it is (rather, may have been) interesting in the 2000s, but, no no. Oh, and papparazzi do not follow her, no sir.
Niahm Kavanagh: She looks like... herself in 1993?? (they did not even have the decency of posting a recent picture). Her song is definitely not In Your Eyes, talent-wise, either the song or the singer (too bad she has lost the top part of her register -just watch her live recently). It may be reminiscent of My Heart Is Yours, but then it would remind anyone of a zillion older songs, interesting only in their time and niche.
Any counter-arguments, needless to say, should be grounded
Remember Ireland will be heard twice!! semi and in the final...
I really hope niamh wins... its jury friendly , its build up nicely...
....
so far....my top 3 Ireland , Norway, Turkey and Slovakia
the rest are very poor.
Niamh has the best song for eurovision .. aslo the best voice .. so she just has to win tonight!!
i love ryan tubridy or as my english teacher said yesterday, niall turbidy lol
It's rewarding to see some of you are finally having your own insights on what some of us have been writing about for weeks... not!
What's all this sudden fuss about quality vs. quantity?? It's clear, people: bubble-gum vote goes to the dreadfully dull Didrik anthem, while grownup/eurofan vote goes to old-fashioned, nothing-to-write-home-about but very dignified Niahm entry. And jury vote likewise... or you thought that the jury will be made up of -what? Just people, like you and me, only a little more powerful when it comes to casting their vote.
Niw, when all is said and done in the "Teenaged Dated Candidate' vs. "Mature Once-been Repetitive", is anyone hardly thinking about the possibility of good songs making it to the top ten?
Shame on all
niamh to win best of luck

I totaly agree with you. Our Didrik will gain the Televotes, mostly from our Swedish neighbours, I'll be shocked if they don't award Didrik 12 via televoting.
But..
Niamh will have the secure amount of jury votes to be saved. Regardless of the televotes (the jury wildcard is the country with the most jury votes which I think would be Ireland if the country failed to make the top 10 in its semi (that I doubt) ..
My only fear is "Shine" might split the jury. As Sopho also has a nice song, and she has time to work on her poor vocals. She can and does put alot of emotion into her live performences. but it would be a dream to see both Georgia and Ireland in the Final, but if I had to choose one.. It of course would be Ireland
Niamh makes her song sound better than it really is
As a fan who has Ireland and Norway listed as favourites ESC countries, I think (much to my regret) that Norway 10 suffers greatly from the fact that Didirk is way in over his head with 'My heart is yours'. It requires a more powerful operatic voice than his in order to soar in an event like ESC. Didrik was surely chosen because of his looks (the bubble gum factor ). Norway 10 is indeed an extremely slow grower (much to my regret). On the other hand, Niamh makes her song sound better that it really is, being as she is a more mature and accomplished singer. These two entries are similar in style and, imo, Norway will lose many jury votes to Ireland and Norway will get more televotes.
I think Zanic is reffering to young girls/teens
Zanic,
Any Norwegian girl would support Didrik.
HOW DARE YOU???? I would certainly not! He didn't get any votes from me!

lol
Shhh I meant Higher notes
like at the end of "In your Eyes"
(or at least thats what I believe she meant on her Facebook)
I've said this so many times but the Irish can just sit back and relax with no voting- our good neighbours must vote for Niamh - she will qualify from Semi 2 (with my vote) and maybe even win if she is chosen.
Don't go for Mikey just because he's in Boyzone, go for Niamh because she is obviously the best chance Ireland has of winning for many years!
It's up to you Ireland, but I know who I'd vote for
Tohoshinki ★彡
Any Norwegian girl would support Didrik. I only needed to look at my sister's lovestruck face during MGP to figure that one out..
"My heart is yours" Is Okay(ish) Its a VERY slow grower on me..
At the start I hated it. But now Its in my top 10, but "Its for you" has instant appeal. You only need to hear it once to like it. so thats why I think Niamh will win the Irish Eurosong 2nite and also score well in ESC 2010. I don't think she will make the top 5, but she will score in the top 10 for sure
(I think Didrik will probably score in the top 10 also, but maybe 2 or 3 places below Niamh)
@Zanic
Tweak it? Large notes towards the end? You mean, it will sound even more like "My hard is yours"?? LOL!
@Zanic The Norse Knight
I don't agree but whatever ..... It's not like our opinions count
Televoters and jury members are not all Eurovision fans and the contest will be their first opportunity to hear the song .... GEORGIA will score high
MARK MY WORDS
poor oldfashioned entries from Ireland. Last year they were really good and just missed the top 10. This year thanks to juries they will pass.
niamh all the way.....better book my tickets to dublin 2011...coz standard this year over europe is by far the worst in years...prob since 1989 actually....pure drivel
Compared to every other ballad of 2010 so far;
Thea Garrett "My Dream"
Didrik Solli-Tangen "My Heart Is Yours"
Sopho Nizharadze "Shine"
"It's For you" Is much better than any of these. Trust me you would need to be deaf not to know that.
I think My Hear Is Yours by Didrik is better than It's For You
I am so deaf
Sopho Nizharadze "Shine" is the best ballad in this contest
So wrong. Its average and Sopho is an awful live singer (with ballads anyway) She should have made more uptempo songs because the only uptempo song she had "Call me" was a rop-off of Janet Jackson's "Feedback" and her performence was the worst of the night.
"Its for you" is a great ballad. Not the best of NF season, but most good ballads were ignored in most countries and the most boring songs or crap bland pop came 1st. I predict a struggle for Georgia this year juries hate bad vocals and Sopho has no fame at all. Also Georgia is not in the best position for points on the map. Most Georgian people live in Georgia (so little disapora)
"Peace will come" and "Visionary Dream" were both better than "Shine" .. but at least "Shine" is better than " We dont wanna Pou in"
Sopho Nizharadze "Shine" is the best ballad in this contest
I have to say ..... Very emotional , vocally strong and the song It's sort of building very well on it's own .... I said this also about Yohanna last year and I wasn't wrong she came in 2nd
As for the Irish songs
Well personally I find them a bit old-fashioned ..... "Fashion Queen" reminds me of "Miss Kiss Kiss Bang" which didn't do very well ....
And "It's For you" sounds a bit bland and middle of the road .... She is obviously very talented and I loved her previous effort back in the 90's .....
Anyway GOOD LUCK

I agree, Zanic. Niamh lends it maturity, talent and class. I am rooting for her, but I am afraid that the European televoters will be voting in droves for Didrik (especially the female voters). I am counting on the juries to set things straight. Now, I am eagerly waiting for tonight's show.

i can only assume you missed taking your pills
Unfortunatelly the bunch of songs is weak, and Niam's song is poor and very cliche, was hoping the former eurovision winner had a more memorable entry. I actually think that the Fashion Girl song is the one that with a good and modern staging and performance can give Ireland a better result then the rest of the songs on offer, but I guess Niam will win it since she has the advantage of being a former esc winner.
"i hope niam h doesnt go to oslo her song is very similair to the norwegian entry
They both are quite alike, but Niamh's song is more classic with a touch of Irish music through it. On her facebook she has hinted that if she wins she will tweak the song. Also she has hinted that more Celtic elements and probably larger notes towards the end which would sell the song very well for myself.

"It's For you" Is much better than any of these. Trust me you would need to be deaf not to know that. Furthermore we have alot of mediocre mid-tempo songs (which some fools think are ballads but obviously these people have no musical info at all)
Now if Niamh were to win (which I hope she does) she would atm be one of my favourites to win. But still many countries are yet to select so I hope I find some more songs that I adore. Because atm I only like 6 songs so far this year :/ thats not good when in 2009 I liked 8 songs and LOVED 4 songs
Let's hope that we vote for the right SONG tonight and not get all parochial and vote for someone from the local town!
There can only be one winner though - Niamh Kavanagh. A good song, maybe not a winner ...... just yet, wait for the production people do their best. It's a pity about the 6 on the stage rule, it would be great to finish with a lots of backing singers.
