Ik ben verliefd - shalalie enters charts
The Netherlands: Radio support for Sieneke
As reported already, the Dutch national final ended up with two acts in tie position. When the composer of the song, Pierre Kartner, was asked to make the final decision, he wanted to decide the winner by flipping a coin. When it turned out this was against the rules, Pierre finally chose for Sieneke's version of the song. All of this led to major criticism to the composer, the singer and broadcaster.
An enormous majority of Dutch press and fans have no high hopes for this year's Dutch entry. They fear the song is "too old fashioned" for the Eurovision Song Contest and they blame broadcaster TROS for choosing 74 year old Kartner to be the exclusive composer of the Dutch song. Even former Eurovision winner, Johnny Logan, stated that the song probably won't stand a chance: "The song just isn't strong enough; I'm afraid it has no appeal at all to European voters. The Dutch can do so much better than this. About the voting: I was horrified when Pierre wanted to decide the winner by flipping a coin; we're talking about lifes here!".
The regional radio stations think it's time now for a different sound. According to a spokesman of RTV Oost there has been enough negative publicity: "It's time to show our support for Sieneke!" Therefore, the broadcaster opened a guestbook where people can leave a message for Sieneke. (www.sterrenparade.nl) The initiative is supported by former Dutch representative Marga Bult.
Despite all the negativity, Ik ben verliefd - Shalalie entered the Dutch single charts this week at no. 13, and reached the first spot on the iTunes charts already.

I really dont get this!? Who decided that Pierre shuld write the song for The Netherlands?

I didn't mean that at all, I meant your comment about modern music is not popular in Eastern Europe, but just forget it please.....
And I have to tell you that you chose wrong example coz Eva Rivas is not popular in Armenia, how she can be when she is not from Armenia at all! I know alot about Eastern European singers!

The problem was the poor guy looked like he suffered from a sudden amnesia attack, giving Yolanthe and the TROS and the entire nation a heart attack, but it doesn't matter which one was his fave in the end. It looked just very amateurish.

Ok , so you are telling me that complete "nobodys" enter the Eastern Europeans/Turkey/Greece finals? I don't believe that for a moment, and neither would those singers consider themselves on a level with the Spanish top 10 entrants either?..or are you saying that's the case? if we are reacting here to the Netherlands for example, are you telling me that that this unknown, typically Dutch style singer/song compares with an Armenian singer trying to bribe votes via her "Moscow businessman" boyfriend just to represent her country? it seems to me a completely different world..

Well, I still don't see the problem. If his favourite was Vinzzent and he had no chance at winning, he had to choose one of them. Tough choice whether you like or dislike them both equally.

You are not such a big expert for Eastern European music scene and you don't know how much is modern music popular in Eastern Europe, but I won't go further, it's OK!!

well you misunderstand me completely, I was talking about Eurovision versus current music scene, and in the context of the Dutch song (that it represents current Dutch music scene for example?!) well probably not, just as "Massive Attack" or "The Stone Roses" etc would never have/will represent the UK) it seems my words are always misinterpteted, if you read my post it is indeed YOU who supposed that it was "insulting" that Eastern European stars should go to Eurovision, not me, I only said (which I believe to be true) that many famous singers from Armenia etc would love to go to ESC whereas in UK, Spain etc it's exactly the opposite...unfortunately, so in fact you are criticising me for a positive comment, but that's a journalistic thing , reread my post and tell me otherwise..

I found your comment about Eastern Europe a bit insulting coz OF COURSE than in Eastern Europe all the biggest stars don't participate in ESC and OF COURSE that in Eastern Europe music from ESC is not the most modern!!!!!!

haha well he can promote all he wants but don't moan to me when we end up only getting a few votes from Sweden, Iceland and Denmark.
Maybe a few votes from western countries but the balkans, and Ex Soveit countries tend not to vote for boring songs. I'll be there on the day after the Final to say "Told you so" when were in the bottom half of the score board

The sad thing is, that actually was in the rules, Pierre Kartner knew he would have to decide when there was a tie. His fave was Vinzzent, he admitted later after lying that Sieneke was his fave.
Well time to be realistic, since when has ESC ever "represented" current music trends etc? practically never, if that was the case we woukd have "coldplay" representing UK, etc etc (maybe for Eastern Europe it's different, that their current "stars" want to represent their country?), however, we should look at Eurovision, even as fans, in a kind of "Eurovision box", separated from the mainstream music (unfortunately, but that is the case and reality), so we should judge those songs , I think, for their own merit within the ESC context, and Netherlands 2010 is a good example of that, is a song purely for ESC, not as an international hit, here in Spain we have those top 10 songs to choose from within the ESC context (but you don't see for example Monica Naranjo, fabulous Spanish singer, fighting to sing for Spain etc), so I think we should look at the songs in context within ESC, and for sure the Dutch song was criticised as being "old-fashioned etc" but within what context? a journalistic thinking! paulcl!
Personally, I didn't like the song at first but it grew on me because Sieneke made it better. It's not THAT bad, better than Denmark's entry.

Relax, Mr. Logan, their lives are not at peril, they will not die from not going to Eurovision, lol.
I think it's good that she managed to enter the charts. People are so negative and mean towards it, Pierre and even Sieneke and that was such good news! Obviously a lot of people liked the song enough to buy it.
If anything, this whole mess in Netherlands this year has at least provided some interest around their entry, whether it is good or bad, lol. They might get higher viewing ratings now.
I like the song, Sieneke is a good singer and Pierre had a difficult choice so he just went with one (the best one too). The other morons who made up the rules should have thought about what to do if there would be a tie instead of just asking him on impulse. That is what they did, right? It wasn't planned for him to decide if therewould be a tie?
Anyway, good luck to Sieneke/Netherlands and I will vote for you because there is nothing better to vote for (yet)!
Singer is good but song is bad , even and if God support that song has no change to be in the final , i feel bad beacuse i speak like that but Netherlands dissapoint me more year by year, how on earth Netherlands send lovely songs in JESC and bullshits in ESC ? I cant undertand that from a countrey who have very good composers ! Now radio " forces " Duch people to like that song but who on earth is going to make the people from other countries to vote for that song? grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

First of all, Alexander Rybak never said his favourite was Mira Craig - but Keep of Kalessin. Secondly, if Didrik appeared on those tv shows as you mentioed - what is wrong with it then? Mira Craig already had her fame behind her, so I find it just unlogical for unknown artists such as Didrik to not be allowed to promote himself. He was critisized by Norwegians the most when it came to his concept towards the media before the MGP finals, not only by Swedes (if your source is from the Schlagerboys, then it is pathetic). Promotion gives more votes, end off
hmm... well if they actually like the song than they should support it. But if they are supporting it just because 'it has had enough bad publicity' then I think thats wrong. There is no point in trying to force people to like the song...
i Hope Greece will give a lot of points to this song and this country. i fucking LOVE this song. it does not matter if its a little 70's and 80's tune. this is the magic. old good times. One of the very few times that you listen to a song and it makes yous smile, you wanna dance it and it delivers positive energy.
Also, the singer is LOVABLE. Good luck Holland !!!!Kisses from Athens Sieneke, you seem a moral and nice person. We are tired of voiceless sluts..Go go Girl!!!
