LIVE
The show has started with a new version Bonnie Tyler's classic Holding out for a hero performed by some familiar faces. The hosts are on stage now to welcome the audience.
1. Ola Svensson - Unstoppable (1st in esctoday.com poll with 25.8% of the vote)
Ola Svensson performs a very classic piece of Europop and you don't have to be a fortune teller to predict that this song will become major fan favourite. The vocals are strong and the rather simple performance suits the song very well. Nevertheles, this overly typical sort of Swedish music (including te lyrics) has not been very successful in the Eurovision Song Contest in recent years.
2. Jennifer Silver - A place to stay (8th in esctoday.com poll with 2.6% of the vote)
Standing in a futuristic corset with a feel of middle-aged dress, Jennifer starts the song with a deep and strong vocal. The slow tempo electro-pop song builds a little and the vocal remains strong.
3. - Linda Pritchard - You're making me hot hot hot (3rd in esctoday.com poll with 13.3% of the vote)
A strong up tempo dance song starts with the flame haired songstress in a silver and orange outfit. Strong choreography from the off helps the song to make an instant impact. The vocals are excellent and the routine flawless, the song is popular in the hall.
4. Pain of Salvation - Road salt (5th in esctoday.com poll with 11.6% of the vote)
Pain of salvation make their eagerly awaited Melodifestivalen debut with a soft opening of the song Road salt. The song puts the emphasis very much on the strong lyrics. It's a simple performance at the microphone but the entry is hugely popular.
5. Anders Ekborg - The saviour (6th in esctoday.com poll with 5.6% of the vote)
Anders' musical background comes through immediately with a hugely powerful vocal. Moving around the stage in a black suir and white shirt with female dancers and backing singers, the song has a pop beat in the style of Il Divo and last year's Melodifestivalen winner, La Voix. The song finishes with a traditional Eurovision style big finish
6. Jessica Andersson - I did it for love (2nd in esctoday.com poll with 24.5% of the vote)
Jessica returns to Melodifestivalen with the ballad I did it for love. Her first ballad in the competition begins with her alone on stage in a navy dress and a blue stage. Singing in English again, the song tells a story of lost love. With a powerful chorus, could Jessica be returning to the final?
7. Frispråkarn - Singel (7th in esctoday.com poll with 3.9% of the vote)
Frispråkarn opens his performance with red lights flashing across the stage as rap returns to Melodifestivalen and "Hotel Single" (in Swedish) on the backing video screens. The rap works well with six backing dancers in black dresses. The song builds with a harmonious backing vocals and the song is recieved well in the hall.
8. Salem Al Fakir - Keep on walking (4th in esctoday.com poll with 12.9% of the vote)
Salem is on the grand piano with the keys flashing in differernt colours. The soft rock song is catchy and the first wildcard entry of the year is going down well in the hall. The song doesnt really build too much and may struggle to overcome some of the other entries tonight although the artist is popular.
The recap of the songs begins and voting in Sweden is underway as we await the results of the first round of voting.
The first three songs to be eliminated are:
Jenny Silver - A place to stay; Anders Ekborg - The saviour and Frispråkarn - Singel
The first song to qualify for Globen on March 13th is: Salem Al Fakir - Keep on walking
Ola Svensson, Linda pritchard, Pain of salvation and Jessica Andersson battle for the second qualification place for the final and two spots in the second chance round in the second round of voting which is now under way.
Pain of salvation and Jessica Andersson qualify for the second chance round.
Ola Svensson with Unstoppable qualifies directly for the final on March 13th.

Jessie Sanders
Salem is Swedish but his father comes from Syria.
I'd rather see Linda to 2nd chance instead of Jessica
I think Jenny Silver lost many voutes because of her warderobe. Same thing happened with Jessica Andersson and her song Kale Natter.
such such a shame that lind - you're makin me hto hot hot didn't get thru
the winner is not in this heat. Road salt was the best and Ola was quite good, though I hate the lyrics in the song. strong performance. Linda was a disappointment!
@Jesper, nice to hear that I am not alone in my love for Jenny's song. I just downloaded it from Youtube.
Good for Salem.
The first semi-final is always a disappointment (the third and last one are usually the strongest), however - there were some decent songs and performances.
Jenny Silver was my favourite by far, the song was modern, futuristic and the performance the most innovative we've seen in years. I knew from the beginning that "A place to stay" wouldn't stand a chance but to me - she's the queen of cool in MF . That dress made of 300 necklaces, the shoes, the silver arm *drool*...
I'm normally not a fan of Salem al Fakir but that song really grows on me, there's something very quirky, cool and haunting about it. No winner though.
Ola was... not bad, the song is catchy, but I believe it would do poorly in Oslo. A seventh place in the swedish final perhaps?
Linda blew my mind with her energy and vocal skills, but the song was horrible. A very pale Beyoncé/Shakira-esque yawn.
Jessica was a pro as usual but that song.. and that boring outfit. Zzzzzzz...zzz...zzz. wake me up.
Jenny however - what a woman.
An OK night overall, good for being a first semi, since SVT always saves the best for last.
Fair result!
congrats to those who make it!
OMG results are awful!!!

I only like Jessica Andersson, where are old good MF songs!!
I don't like Ola's song too!
Well I'm happy Ola is going to Globen, but I hope Sweden will come see how beautiful Road Salt is.... it's time you send something new and Pain of Salvation is really just beautiful!!!
they have to go to Globen as well
Fair results. I would switch PoS with Ola, but I'm sure they will make it to the final through second chance anyway.

Frisprakarn is OUT!!!
GOOOOO Linda and Jessica!! Salem is awful!!
I knew Salem was a dark horse. That song has something, for sure.
At least Pain Of Salvation won't go direkt till Globen.
Great that Salem made it! Now PoS have to make it too!
Some irrelevant news: Dima Bilan will once more participate in the russian national final this year
the other two songs are:
1.PoS (must be!!!!!!)
2.jessica
Now I want PoS to Globen too.
Is this a joke? Salem passed in the grand final?
I already like this year's MF more then the whole last year's edition. I only disliked "The saviour" and "Singel". I knew my fave Jenny Silver would fail. My only point of criticism is the amount of people on stage. Seven is too much in my opinion. Somehow that one person extra makes a lot of difference, it looks a bit of a mess. Still great to see that MF is back on track.
Top 5:
Pain of Salvation
Linda Pritchard
Salem
Jessica
Ola
EXCELLENT RESULTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never has been this happy abut top 5!
SALEM TO GLOBEEEEEEEEEEEN!!! YEEEES!!!
I think Jessica will be, once again, 5th or in second chance round
I don't really understand this voting process, are they voting in several rounds to pick one winner for the final each round?
don't understand that Salem song... it's just not my thing.
the first time i watch it
Great! I guessed alll!!!!!!!!!
I just want Salem and Anders to go through. I didn't see Anders' performance, but I liked his song more than the others.
ok, as a Dutch guy, being ashamed A LOT of what we're going to send, I hope the rest of Europe sends quality. so Pain of Salvation should be Swedens choice....
the other song I liked was Ola's, the rest just was not strong enough for me.
1.PoS
2.Salem
3.Jessika
4.Linda
@Jessie
Salem comes from Syria
