Sweden: ABBA's Agnetha to release My very best

Agnetha Faeltskog, one quarter of the legendary ABBA, will be releasing a collection album on 8 October 2008. The album carries the title My very best and it is a 2CD set with the best solo recordings of the artist. Another 5CD compilation album, which contains all her 5 first solo albums went also on sale on 26 September 2008.

The perfect sensation for Agnetha Faeltskog and Abba fans has been oficially confirmed: A new 2 CD box with the best solo recordings of Agnetha is soon going to be available for purchase. This album contains some 34 best solo recordings , plus Agnetha's personal favourite Abba song The winner takes it all. The track list has been decided by the artist herself together with Sony BMG and it includes also her Swedisch solo version of the ABBA hit SOS.

Another compilation CD, Agnetha Faeltskog -Original Album Classics was released two weeks ahead of My very best. This is a package of 5 CDs with her first 5 solo albums from the period of 1967-1975, all in Swedish.

Despite the fact that Agnetha has been a very important part of ABBA, probably the most glamorous and no doubt the most famous band in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest, she managed to build up a solo career even during the ABBA period. It may be that her solo career has never reached an international massive success, but it was quite rich and successful, especially in her home country, Sweden, in the Benelux countries and in South Africa. Agnetha had her first hit listing in Sweden as early as in 1968 with the song Jag var sae kaer and this success was followed by a long list of well known hits. She has recorded about 11 solo albums between 1969 and 2004, among which are three international recordings in the 80's with some very well known producers. Her last solo album with the title My colouring book enjoyed huge success in Sweden and hit the top of the swedish charts. Agnetha has also done the songwriting for many of her solo tracks and she has produced a big part of her solo recordings.

The two new releases of Agnetha give an overview of her talent and her wide solo career and they also pay a tribute to one of Sweden´s most sucessful artists of all time.

Well FRida was my absolute favorite, but I have every cd of both ladies. Agneta had about 3 really big hits in Belgium, Wrap your arms around me, never again (with THomas Leding) and the heat is on. But he, Belgium always held Abba and all its members very tender in their arms. In fact after Australia, Abba had the highest amount od number 1 hits in Belgium. Even more than Sweden.

"Bang a boomerang" would have been a better choice than "Jennie Jennie" in 1975 imo.

"Ring ring" is a much better song then "Waterloo", I agree. And I even like "Bang a boomerang" more, the 1975 MF song which was performed by Svenne & Lotta. But to be honest, I think Sweden made the right choice in 1973. Nova's "You're summer" was one of the best songs in the 1973 contest.

Neil wrote the English lyrics only :D ABBA sang in Swedish in MF.

Mina
I'm not sure if Catchier is officially in the english dictionary, but people use it all the time ;)

Stockholm
I didn't know Neil Sedaka wrote the lyrics, I assumed the songwriter would be Swedish :) And I agree I doubt she will enter MF again, I think she probably wants to lead a more quieter life nowadays ;)

Agnetha is fantastic. I met her in 89 and it winds me up that people call her a hermit. She just choses a quiet life and the press can't deal with that. They come up with wild stories as they can not get an interview!!!
Her songs are beautiful, along with her looks and her voice, and although I love ABBA as a whole, she will ALWAYS be my favourite. Agnetha IS ABBA. For those of you who don't know her solo songs, buy this - you'll love her!

I like both Ring Ring and Waterloo...they're both very catchy..maybe ring's music is just a little bit catchier (is there such a word? :P)

Jonny
Yeah, "Ring ring" is much better :) Did you know that Neil Sedaka wrote the lyrics.
Agnetha's MF song in 1981 was nothing special imo. If ever she decides to compete in MF again (which I doubt) I don't think she would win hands down, unless her song is very good of course.

Agnetha -aswell as Frida- has released solo material prior, during and after ABBA. ALL members had careers before they became part of the supergroup and were all more or less established in the (Swedish) musicbusiness.

Yes, Ring ring is much better than Waterloo, I think.
Agnetha is a very lovely woman, but also very shy. I don´t think she´s intrested to participate in MF.

Stockholm
Yeah, Imo "ring ring" is much better than "Waterloo" :) The song written by her is quite nice, but definitely not a winnner.

"Ring ring" should have won in 1973. The Swedish people were furious at the jury results and this was the last time there was a 100% expert jury in MF.
This is the song Agnetha wrote for Melodifestivalen. It finished 5th (and last) :

I think she would do well at melodifestival, maybe she didn't want to do esc anymore, because I think after winning, artists probably feel reluctant to do it again. Did you know ABBA tried to enter eurovision some years earlier with the song "ring ring"? :D

Good luck to her!
All four members of ABBA were successful artists on their own before they got together.
In 1981 Agnetha wrote a song for MF "Men natten är vår" (though she didn't sing it herself). She seems to be a very nice person :)

... watching the clip makes me think and wonder: how it comes she has never competed solo in a Melodiefestival? I am sure she could have won it and she could have also scored very well in the ESC...probably she has no interest in this..hmmm..i may ask her this on an interview in the future....LOL...

Vincent
Aaah thanks for the info ;) I suppose it makes sense that her career wasn't very international, because people didn't know her for being her, they knew her for being a member of ABBA.
I like your new picture btw, its pretty cool to put a face to a esc-fan! :)

jonny,
agnetha has released some 11 albums and she has worked with many very well known producers, but she has never had a huge success, only in Sweden. I think she must be very talented. Frida has done also some solo recordings with a bigger success i think, at least here in germany and beyond sweden.. I am curious now to listen to some of agnetha's recordings. I am curious to see if her voice and her style(because she has composed many of her songs) are similar to abba's..

Jonny K. [46850]

I didn't know she had a solo career, I should think this CD will do very well :)
I think ABBA is the sort of group, that ever family (at least in the UK) has to have a CD of somewhere! I bet everybody I know has an ABBA CD somehwere in their family, I can certainly confirm there are a few in our house somwhere! They're one of those names which EVERYBODY has heard of, a bit like Elvis or Queen :D
