Opening the 2009 season

Tonight: first quarter final in Bulgaria

Tonight at 19:40 CET, Bulgaria will open the preselections season for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, with the first heat out of twelve in total. The national finals season will probably close with Swedish Melodifestivalen 2009 Final on 14th March.

The show will last for 55 minutes and five songs will be presented:

  1. Monika Kirovska - I won
  2. Emil Sokolov - Deystvitelnost ili izmama
  3. I Velina - Ready for love
  4. Perfect Stranger - I promise
  5. Venelina Milanova - Neka s pesen

In tonight's show, two songs will drop out. The jury will choose one qualifier, and the televoting will choose another two.

The show can be watched through BNT's webstream here and will be covered live here on esctoday too.

If you have a satellite dish pointed to the satellite Eutelsat W2 in 16°E position, you can watch the show in BNT Satellite Channel at frequencies 11011V 27500 3/4.

The webcast link doesn't seem to be only for the national final, so it should really work before the show, guys. As it did last year.

Everybody is dissing Bulgaria's choice of choosing a song and that it is going on for too long but I think this is a good way of doing it.

They are thoroughly choosing a song with many choices and so picking what they feel is the best Bulgaria has to offer.

I also picked up on someone saying that Bulgaria will be tired of their song come May. I ask, does it matter. Bulgaria cannot vote for Bulgaria's song anyway.

Also, the winning song could end up being the last song to be performed and therefore be fresh.

Whatever happens; Good Luck Bulgaria!

Good luck to Bulgaria, I liked both their 2007 and 2008 songs.

that's the risk Mina, same in Melodifestivalen. Some nights you have 4 good songs, other nights only 1... Is a bit unfair, I agree

I think it would be fairer if all songs were heard at the same time...on the same night I mean. What if all these 5 songs are good? They could eliminate a esc winning song and not even realize it.

Aha, so if this ESC season starts on 2nd October and finishes on 14th March it means it lasts five months and twelve days.
I think it's unnecessarily long, but with the current high number of countries maybe it's normal...
