Slovakia returns to Eurovision in 2009

A few moments ago, Slovakian public broadcaster STV announced that it will bring Slovakia back to the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow next year. It will be the first time that the country participates in eleven years.

The confirmation was made by SVT officials during discussions about programming schedule with Eurovision Chief, Mr. Björn Erichsen. For several years now, Slovakia was reluctant to join Eurovision Song Contest again due to their budget problems. It seems the broadcaster is now able to enter for 2009.

No information has yet been made public about how STV plan to select their entry. An announcement about whether the entry will be selected internally or national final will come in the next few weeks.

Slovakia has entered the competition three times in the past, with poor results on each occasion. They entered for the first time in 1994 with Martin Durinda and Tublatanka singing Nekonečná pieseň, winning just 15 points. In total, they have picked up only 42 points. Find out about their history at the Eurovision Song Contest here.

It's great that they finally have the opportunity to return.I'm so mad for their bad placings in their three years of participation.Escpecially in 1998, where they deserved to win unanimously.

Great news :)

Hopefully this is a europe-mid-country, and not just another 12 to russia and ukraine.

Maybe Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary can look forward to see Slovakia back :)

Welcome Slovakia!
