Portugal : Vania Fernandes stars in bank commercial

This year’s Portuguese entrant, Vania Fernandes, is presently starring in a TV ad for Banco Santander, the Portuguese branch of the famous Spanish bank.

Having won the 3rd season of “Operação Triunfo” and being the first performer to qualify her country for the Eurovision Grand Final give Vania Fernandes a big load of fame. So it is not surprising to see her on a TV commercial as well as on the home-page of the bank’s website here.

Thanks to Paul & Franck.

One of the BEST SONG!!! this year... 100% I agree with some of you, this song was something like a moral winer (POR, ROM, SWI, ISR... all so winning worth!!!) but there was a special feeling about Portugal song in the Belgrade Arena, you could felt it there if You were there, off course.
Good luck Portugal next year!

For me also Portugal was the best this year. "Senhora do mar" was and is a beautiful song and Vania is a great singer. It would be great to see her back on ESC once. Iwas very happy to meet Vania in Belgrade, She is so sweet !! I wish her all the best and I can't wait for her first cd album !!!

This song was perfect, back vocals, Vania's performance on stage, lyrics, everything!!!

In my view, the moral winner!

Not having in matter the voting system, this song had a great score. It got the second place in the 2nd semi final, and were placed 13th in the final, a great achievement for an western country song, especially Portugal, neighbouring only with Spain, and even those can't reward us with the 12Points!
It's a TEAM... Spain, a TEAM... lol :P

Russia may have won due to Block Voting but it was VERY clear that the audience and the journalists regarded this song the BEST.

When time goes by, we'll remember that a russian won the festival and Vania gave us one of the best songs and performances of the festival!

BTW... this commercial was broadcasted even before she won the Festival da Canção in Portugal. It was just after her victory in the reallity show "Operação Triunfo".

Next year i would like to see Ana Free or Mia Rose representing Portugal. They're the 2 upcoming stars here!

Of course i would also like to see Vânia doing that job again, she proved already she can do it, better than 10.000 shirtless Dimas singing in harmony, with all the russian figure skaters and ice hockey teams skating behind, lol!

Shame on Eurovision that can't prevent this casting errors to happen! Do something, change something because its just ridiculous...

Well, bad for the fans that will have to wait for a sunny ESC, instead they will go for the cold and grey Moscow, and i bet they will have to visit the East the next few years, or do you really think a Festival in Russia would see a Western winner in the end?
No Way!!!

ONE OF THE BEST SONGS in 2008 and still ONLY 13TH?
DOES ANYBODY UNDERSTAND THAT?

This news is SO old! This commercial was made even before she won the Festival da Canção. She was on a winning rampage.

When i first heard the song i said it has something(i didnt like the intro which was 1min long-boring....and the refrain was amazing)) BUTTTTTTTTTTT when i saw her rehearsals SHE gave a big plus to the song and logical i loved her performance.
After these months i believe that Vania with a REALLY special song can do ALOT better(the woman has power onstage).
She deserved a top5 position( i dont believe the song was SUPER thats why it wasnt doing well at polls e.t.c the rehearsals - which means Vanias performance - made it one of the favourites in the arena(if i remember she was chosen as top3 from the journalists seeing the rehearsals).
Anyway i hope to see her again...!!!

She has to come back, I can't imagine any better singer/ performer than her for Portugal!

Well, Vânia is a loveable person with a great voice who sang a decent song upgraded by a stunning and touching performance. But speaking of Portugueses singers, I think that Vânia is still far behind artists like Mariza, Mísia, and especially Cristina Branco. I would love to see one of those on an ESC stage in the future, but all of them probably concieve of themselves as too much an artist as to stoop to participating in ESC. Sad.

Vania had a great voice and "Senhora do Mar" was a good song, though not top 10 for me. Sorry.

Sorry, but to me this song isn't a winner. It is a very good song, and for me, it was placed about right I think

It wasn't a winner for me either but I think it should be in the Top 10. It's not among my top 5 favourites though.

"How long is it since the UK (where I live) could claim such a thing?"

lol!!! :) Well I think we sent a very respectable song this year, even though it wasn't of the highest quality. And I think Javine really did have a well written song :D And whilst the performance of Cry baby was awful, it is a v'good pop song :) I think we under-rate our own entries alot of the time ;)

Hers was a terrific song, a proper song, superbly delivered - but 'serious' songs rarely do well in Eurovision.

Never mind - Portugal can hold its head high knowing it sent an entry of great quality to the contest. How long is it since the UK (where I live) could claim such a thing?

Sorry, but to me this song isn't a winner. It is a very good song, and for me, it was placed about right I think. I'm glad she qualified because Portugal fully deserved it though :D

So she's now backing banking? In today's financial climate it does appear she stumbles from one crisis to another!

The best of 2008, by far!
Vania's performance touched my very heart and soul!
Her haunting, deep, dramatic voice, the gestures and facial expressions, the strong background voice, the clothing and the dark- blue background which perfectly reflected the motives of the song... everything was just PERFECT!
Plus, she proved to be a wonderful and lovable woman as well in all the interviews she gave! Nobody deserved victory more than her in this year!
She has to come back, I can't imagine any better singer/ performer than her for Portugal!
And of course, Andrej has to come back as well. Eurovision isn't the same without one of his amazing entries (I hope for Slovenia again) :)

Hehe .. But she was all over the Lisbon with that commertial even before the Eurovision (almost as she had been choosen as the Portuguese representative)!
So, it must be the NEWS at least 6 months old :)

I would also like to see Vania in eurovision again. With a more modern song I'm sure she can do extremely well.

Good for Vania, because she had one of the best songs of this years' Eurovision ! (And was one of the best performers too !)
I hope she will go for Portugal again.
