Anouk: "I would sing for Netherlands"

Dutch superstar Anouk has delighted fans of the Eurovision Song Contest by declaring to esctoday.com that she would represent the country in Moscow. In an interview to be published tomorrow (Tuesday), she says that she would go, but does not want to compete in a national final. She has a plan for a national selection with three or four songs written by her and the public would be allowed to choose which she would sing in the competition.

Earlier this month the talented singer won a Dutch poll of readers who had the chance to vote for their choice to represent the country in Moscow. Cornald Maas, the Dutch Eurovision Song Contest commentator told esctoday.com that he thought she would be a great choice but did not think she would want to go to the Eurovision Song Contest. He is thrilled that she wants to do it and thinks her authentic style is just what the country needs to get back to the Eurovision Song Contest final.

Anouk is currently the biggest star in The Netherlands and it would be a huge boost to the competition to see the country sending one of its best home grown artists to Moscow.

esctoday.com will publish an exclusive interview with her tomorrow along with more news about Dutch plans for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest.

a song like 'nobody's wife would be super cool..but eurovision viewers might probably not like it :(

I think Anouk is too much for Eurovision. She is an amazing artist but in the same time Eurovision audience usually vote something...light!

@Stockholm, I think the keyword is "little". :-)

Marcus Faber:
Sorry. I thought it was OK to stray a little from the actual topic as long as the post is ESC related. I did comment on Anouk as well.

and...dear muireanne,
are you talking about "trash"???!! the biggest trash i have ever seen in the esc history was the 2008 irish entry...

Well at least we now, Anouk will not deliver any trash, so i am also for it!

"In an interview to be published tomorrow (Tuesday),"

Well it's already Wednesday now (in the Netherlands and most of Europe) so when will you publish it?

muireanne,
before you give titles to people, try to get some information on them. a lot of people have an idea of who i really am and what i really like and your "diaspora german puppy" referring to me and to my person is totally wrng. anyway, i thin it is not nice of you, when you have no real arguments against my comments to attack me in such a way. Get over the fact that Greece has the winning formula of the ESC(and some other countries too), and that Ireland does not have it and it tries desperately even with unserious and circus entries, like the one of this year to pass the semis.
T our actual topic: i find Anouk good, she seems to be a god artist, what i do not like about her, is that she never seems to smile and she has a very heavy holland accent in his english, which spils her singing a bit. Good luck to Netherlands, anyway :-)

I agree with Marcus! It's really annoying and it's always the same people!

What I am going to say is not mentioned to attack someone.
I just would like to ask if it could be possible that some members maybe could use the chat (that is working again) to exchange their messages. I find it rather annoying to see all those messages that do not belong to the topic.
I know that I do not have to read them if I am not interested in them. But sometimes I am interested in what people think or maybe someone has some further informations about the topic.

I think Candlelight sounds a bit like the Swedish entry "Stjärnorna" from 1994.

Compare 0:58 with the Hungarian "when you love me by sweet .."

@ Jonny k
"An English Artist"?!
It was recorded by THE English Disco queen Tina Charles.
(i think) it was the first single from her as a solo-artist. Her second single was the "slightly" more known "I love to love". A chart-topper in lots of countries. She was also the vocalist in the studiobased group 5000 volts.

OMG I just discovered another really cool thing lol!! :)
On Elena Paparizou's album "the game of love" there is a song called "you set my heart on fire". Turns out this is actually a cover of a 1970's song by and english artist. Here is the original - http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=_aHDsmh4t9k
And the Paparizou version - http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=RabB5-a5kWA

I think I prefer Elenas version somehow lol! :)

Although John, I did just watch the video of the song and I can see what you mean :) Is it this song - http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=3AOgM6zCoUM

John W
I don't think thats the song because I can't remember listening to that one before, but maybe its a plagiarism of two songs put together lol! :) Thanks for the info though ;)

I think it's great that Anouk wants to represent The Netherlands next year, it's a pity Britain can't send a decent artist as well.

Jonny K - Candlelight does sound a bit like a song from the Dutch final in 98 called 'Over'...?

Jonny [46883]
Tue 19 Aug 2008 20:06:19

OMG Completely random I know but . . . :)
When I was running today I had a moment of intelligence lol! :) On my mp3 player "Candlelight" came on from this year, and I swear I have heard that tune before. It seems so familiar but I don't know where! I really do like the song but I think its plagiarism, does anybody know what I mean and possibly what song I am talking about?

That's a big difference between Belgium and the Netherlands. At the moment "we" are number 12 in the medal table. A 12th position in Eurovision is something we can only dream of.

Come on, some reactions here are just stupid, how can one say that her style of music wont do well at esc, please!!!! Europe loves the typical popsongs like Andorra and Sweden this year right?

Anouk is a great rock chick and her music is pure QUALITY! GO NOS, send ANOUK!!! Real music lovers will like it :-)

"by the Grace of God"... that's the actual translation? or just you being thankful an Irish and a Brit figuered out it was Spanish?"
No, actually the phrase "by the Grace of God" is very common in Southern USA, I just applied it to my citizenship as well!! I´m very very very pleased to be a Southerner!!!

Yes, Muireanne, I have a comment when you refer to something I find interesting or when I want to understand something you said like the 'trash' comment today. You explained, I said no problem, that was all.
Don't make it sound like I'm following you around to attack you because that's not the case at all.

I never accused you of following me around did I? But thanks for finding my comments "interesting" enough to comment on.
