CD single released, clip on TV

France: El Chiki Chiki, a summer hit?

This year’s Spanish entry, Baila el Chiki Chiki by Rodolfo Chikilicuatre has just been released as a CD single in France, with a big campaign of promotion by TV channel M 6, on which the video is often played.

The CD single is published by M 6 Interactions, the channel’s own label. It includes the 3-minute original version, the video but also a “French version” of the song partly sung in bad French by a certain Pablo Uno and written by someone called “Alias”! It is already placing on 6th spot of the weekly Muzikcast TV 60, a list compiling broadcasts on all musical TV channels in France. You can check this list here.

This is actually no big surprise to see the song commercialized in France. Last year Ukraine’s entrant, Verka, was also released, both on CD single and on CD album, under the same label. The song even placed into the Top 10 of the official sales list. Another Eurovision related song had its single available on the French market: María Isabel’s 2004 Junior Eurovision song, Antes muerta que sencilla, was a real big hit on Summer 2005, reaching the 32th place of the annual TOP 100 French sale lists. This time again, label M6 Interactions signed the deal with the original record company.

Back to Rodolfo, the man had a certain number of articles in the French press right before the contest, all dealing with the funny “coup” made by the man and its producers, as well as on lyrics of the very first version.

A big thank you to Alain.

Here is the Spanish entry at Eurovision 2008:

I do like both Elin Lantos 'Money' and Serebros 'Song #1'. And the violet version is just great!

@mina: i agree, i remember feeling like lejla was beautiful, but it didnt hit me like lane moje did. the kaval in lane moje is absolutley haunting!
lejla was quite similar, not as emphatic, but i still loved it!
@marc: good for you if you liked the monster men :)
i said in regardsto lejla that it was for me, and purely ONLY IN MY OWN opinion the best song that year... so before u get ur knickers in a twist take that into account..
i didnt mind hard rock hallelujah, but i still liked lejla better... i understand the message of lejla, liked the music and im a big hari mata hari fan...
so yes geez its about the SONG and for me i found it better..
but music is extremely subjective.. so u r more than entitled to like lordi better :)

for me "leila " and "lane moje" were too similar songs

True, but for me lane moje was 'the real thing' and I really loved it..Leila sounded like a copy..maybe that's why I could never warm up to that song.

anyway...i liked spanish entry this year..it was funny in positive way and showed people in europe that esc can be fun

Spanish, Latvian and Malta songs were the worst songs in Eurovision 2008.

I got sucked into this after reading everyone's comments. I just listened to the violet version of "Song no.1" and I really love it! For me is better than the original esc version. It's great! :D :D

I also listened to "Money" and I really like it, I don't think it's that similar. It was 2007 melodifestivalen so it can't have been copied anyway (not that anyone said so). :)

ok im really embarressed to admit this but after an initial overwhelming hatred of el chiki chiki, i eneded up liking it lol... when me and my cuz found the family guy video to the song, well that was it :)
must say i liked the performance, spesh the girl that was outta sync, i remember all of us in stitches when she was tapping him on the bac lolz :) :)
@johnny: i must say in my own personal opinion i would call portugal the moral winner, coz her song was reflective of the native culture, beautifully sung and well performed.. the fact she finished second in the semis only to fall to a shitty position makes her MY moral winner.. but as stated it is is only MY own personal opinion lol..
@ajdin: i agree wit u that bosna i hercegovina shouldve won in 06, i still listen to it.. soo lovely, hari mata hari are great... t me it encaptulates all that is beautiful about the balkans.. but 3rd is still something to be proud of ;)

@ Keith Timmons
I SO agree with you!
I have been trying to send mails to the guys who runs this site, but there are still just the points from the first 4 or 5 countries in the first semi-final..
Isn´t this slightly embarrasing for a site who claims it is the most up to date on the subject?

Does anyone out there know for sure who were the producers (or who was the producer) of this song "Baila el chiki-chiki"?

Mina:
I liked "Dishi" better. Glad you also noticed the similarities between "Song 1" and "Money".

Jonny:
Thanks for the link.

Stockholm: Oh I see, I only heard "Money" for the first time about a month ago!

Mina: Oh yeah, that is a good song. You can download it for free on the link I provided down below. :)

Oh and I know this is random but oh well! You might remember that yesterday I was struggling to find "Where are you" by Imaani. In the end I had to rip it from youtube but I got a very good sound quality from it, and I understand alot of people here like the song, but don't have it. So I uploaded it onto a file-sharing website so you can download it if you want! http://www.mediafire.com/?stfd3hivvws :) Enjoy :)

Yes, the girls can sing and Song No.1 is better than "Money". The thing is that I heard "Money" long before I heard the Russian song.

Jonny [46883]

Stockholm: Oh I see :S You are right though, "Money" is like a watered down version of "Song .1" :) Although I think I prefer "Song. 1" by far, for me "Money" is like the "Razborka of 2007! :)

Back on the subject of "Song. 1", listen to the Orange version, is a completely a-cappella version of the song, and it does show the singers have nice voices :)

ajdin,
i agree with you, for me "Leila", ESC 2006 was by far the best song of the top3 and i must say i had very strongly wished it would win back then. And for me Lordi was, is and will always be(hopefully the only one) an unworthy winner. And i do not agree with you, Johny, that Lordi had put a lot f effort in it. As far as i know they used to dress up like monsters long before the contest, these silly costumes had always been their stage and clip appearance. So i do not see why, you say, they had put a lot of effoert in their act. For me this remains the worst winning act ever

OMG I had no idea who Elin Lanton or Money was so I did a little search....the basic idea, the lyrics, even the voice are similar indeed!

I heard the orange version, I still wasn't impressed..but, I found a song by them on youtube where I like their voices very much. I think with song #1 they probably did it on purpose to sound like that.
Here's the video of the song I found, and actually I like it a lot, although it's in Russian...and they look so much better than they did in eurovision!

I'm afraid it was me who didn't like Serebro or their song. I agree that the violet version is better but the song still reminds me of Elin Lanto's "Money" :)

Jonny,
I think there's been some misunderstanding here..lol...it's my fault because I didn't explain myself properly.
I DO like the song! As a song. It's modern, I find its music interesting, I can hear it pleasantly. What I didn't like was the girls..the whole presentation, the outfits, it looked..I don't know..cheap to me...and also there was something about their voices I didn't like...it's not the style of voice I like in women..very...like they were meowing..lol
If someone else had sung the song and in a different way, I would probably like it very much.
The Violet version is cool though :D

People, Mina especially**!

I found this version of "Song Number 1" by Serebro, and I really like it, it sounds almost like a modern James Bond theme tune. - http://www.serebro.s(...)/song1/02.VIOLET.mp3 - Enjoy! :)

At this site there are also lots of other versions - http://www.serebro.s(...)en&go=multimedia
The best versions are Orange, Black & Violet :) (Red 2 is an extended version of the eurovision version). You'll see what I mean if you visit the site.

**I said "Mina especially" because I know Mina is not a big fan of this song, but you may like the Violet version Mina! :)
