Will he represent Russia in 2009?
Sergey Lazarev shines in Jurmala!
Sergey Lazarev shot to fame some years back when he was the one half of the famous Russian duo SMASH along with Vlad Topalev. Today Sergey pursues a solo career and is among Russia's most sought after singers having achieved great musical success on home soil in Russia and abroad, having released songs in the U.K.
The multi talented and dymanic Sergey tried his luck this year to represent Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade with his song Flyer, his song only achieved a 4th place and was beaten by Dima Bilan's Believe.
Sergey has been busy touring, giving concerts and performing at various show and important musical shows in Russia since then. He was seen at the MUZTV awards recently, and last week he co hosted the New Wave Song Festival in Jurmala.

Candyman,
I like your arguments!
LOL
I am pretty sure that Lazarev will try to represent Russia in eurovision coz Dima Bilan is too popular now! Lazarev will try to reduce his popularity
The only way he could reduce his popularity would be if he also won Eurovision which (no offence to the artist) I don't think he's capable of doing...next year or ever.

Still, no victory in 2010.
Mina,
i agree with Candyman, in the era of televoting it is hard for a country to win 2 times in a row
I agree...but we were talking about 2010..not about 2009.
Mina,
i agree with Candyman, in the era of televoting it is hard for a country to win 2 times in a row. I think that people even if they like the entry of the hosting country very much, they will rather vote for their next best choice, since viewers tend to want to give to another country the chance to organise the contest. I suspect something like this happened with "Everything" and Greece back in 2006. and i think this is fair, i guess, and actually i am glad we don't get the same country winning each year, like Irealnd in the seventies, just because this country together with the UK and France were the "favourite" pupils of a biased jury voting
Sergey can do me anytime!

Oh, ok, if you say so.
lol
Why not, Candyman? Russia is one of the countries that are helped by televoting...if they send a very good song/performer again, why not win again? I think they have more chances than many other countries.
No they don't stand a chance
but not next year as Russia won't have chances to win again.
what makes u think that Russia has chances to win in 2010? lol

if one thinks of the kind of english in which Ruslana sung "wild Dances" and she even won with it the ESC, i do not think it really matters what kind of english one sings, as long as it is some english :-)
but not next year as Russia won't have chances to win again.

I agree, he can't, Sergey's much better
And his english is much much better too
i have just watched 1 more his "love to hate you" perfrmance, just becuase this song is one of my favs ever
We agree on that, too, Vincent
I love this song. And I agree with everything else you wrote as well...he can't be compared to Dima.
little Imp,
that is ok :-) i just wanted to make my view clear..your comment had been very informative
loooooooool!! i have just watched 1 more his "love to hate you" perfrmance, just becuase this song is one of my favs ever. And i can not stop laughing with the part he sings" llllluuuuve to haateee you"..his english accent is for a russian guy very ok, but this "lluuuvee" thing destroys" a bit the whole effort. S i state my opinion about this guy for the last time: he is very ok on stage, he sings ok, but there is something missing to say he is a good or a shiny performer, especially when compared to Dima Bilan
@ Candyman 12 points:
I have not judged personality or similar things but more the whole style of music and the overall package. But I think you are right Ruslan is nice but doesn't kick like Lazarev or Bilan or Rouvas or Zelmerlöw. Even Koldun had more charisma.
@ Vincent Barbarino:
I don't know if I really care but minos alexandrou was asking and using google is fast and easy. But yes I must admit that I am curious if someone feels or loves the way I do too. But of course there are more important things than this 'gossip' for ESC-fans. The music for example.
Honestly, everything I have heard of his sounds 20 years out of date. People may not like Dima Bilan but at least Believe was a good song. Flyer ain't...
i cannot understand why they hace him here...he neer took participate in esc eather
For now Russia has no other appropriate performers with appropriate songs and appropriate live singing but Sergey and Polina Gagarina. I really-really want Polina to present Russia, but not next year as Russia won't have chances to win again.

Lazarev is more Ruslan-Alehno-like I would say
Alehno had no personality at all. He was so boring and i got really furious when i found out that he didn't knew English..but he sang in English..just like his Russian bro Diva Bilan! Puke!
I respect singing in native.
However some songs sound better in English.
For Russia, I think some songs were better in English - Believe, Serebro, ..
but Never let you go by Dima was miles better in Russian I think.
I find Russian melodic and when it's a balade I think they should sing in their own language.
Greek is my favorite language (pity I don't understand it), but I couldn't imagine Secret Combination in other but English.
Still, I hope Greece for at least ONCE will send a song in native
Maybe I'm the only one who disagrees on the language thing. I've heard Believe in Russian and I admit it sounds better BUT I really like it when I can sing a song, it just wouldn't be the same for me if instead of 'belieeeeeeeeeeeeving' I was singing 'zetnieeeeeeeva' (or however he says it..lol)...not to mention that I like to be able to understand the lyrics.
I think Russia should stick to the english language..or at least half and half.
@TK,
i agree with you very much on the language thing, i also think Dima Bilan sings even better in russian. Actually i would love to see the native language rule returning, at least 50% f the words in the mother language, the rest in whatever. This is for me a much more burning issue than the 50-50 televoting-jury thing
i would love to see a song done in russian next year.. i dont think the language barrier will hamper mother russia at all! i will be honest as much as i hate diva, he is actually really good in russian, russians seem to struggle with english for some reason in esc, but i think it would be great to hear something i russian!
little Imp,
to me he looke likke he were gay, but honestly i do not care a thing about if he really is or not. The sexuality of others, including stars is none of my business, exept in the case i would have something personal going on with them, and that is for noe nt the case. I like thugh the way he spoke about sexual tolerence of the gay people, since i am also definetely f this and since i dislike all sorts of racism.
And i agree that neither flyre not the way he performs would be enough for a victory of Russia in the ESC, either the past or the forthcoming one. He may be a nice guy, but as a performer i find him maybe just ok..that is of course my personal taste..
