French National Day

France: DJs invited to make people dance Eurovision

Last July 1st, France took over Europe’s presidency until the end of the year and a big number of cultural events are scheduled. Among the first ones, “Bals d’Europe” celebrates French National Day – today July 14th – together will all other 26 countries. All around the country, DJs who will be in charge of events have be invited to a double CD, which includes 27 tracks, mainly songs of Eurovision.

Besides fireworks, France’s tradition for the 13th and the 14th of July is to make people dance in open-air balls (“bal populaire” in French). For the balls with an orchestra, the cultural mission during French presidency asked famous accordion player Marc Perrone to write a special waltz entitled “La Valse de l’Europe” which can be downloaded free in its instrumental version together with the music sheet.

For the DJ balls, a double CD (“Euro Disco Bal”) has been released with 28 tracks – there is a bonus - most of which are Eurovision entries. This is no big surprise as the man who selected the songs is Vartoch’, famous comedian and singer within the Eurovision circle. The man organizes the annual EuroVartoVision, a parody of the contest.
