Yugoslavia 1986 and Croatia 1999
Doris Dragović returns to the music scene after 5 years out
Doris will sing a song in the Dalmatian dialect composed by Ivan Huljić, son of Dora veteran Tonči and his lyricist wife Vjekoslava, who has also written the lyrics of Doris's song Svit ne more znat (The World doesn't have to know).
“I’ve known Doris for years, and I value her very much, both as a person and a singer”, says Ivan. “When I started writing songs, I always dreamed that one day she would sing one of my compositions. While I was putting the finishing touches to Svit ne more znat I immediately knew that the song was made for Doris. Mum liked it very much too, and wrote the lyrics in about fifteen minutes.”
Doris is working on a new album which she hopes will be released by the end of 2008, and is looking forward to collaborating with Ivan.
Doris Dragović first took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1986 for the then Yugoslavia with the song Željo Moja, which placed 11th. Far more successful was her entry for Croatia in 1999. Her song Marija Magdalena, with music by Tonči and lyrics by Vjekoslava Huljić, finished in fourth place.

Perhaps the best Yugoslavian entry ever (I mean YU and ex YU) was hers
Stockholm, oh I see thanks!!
Jonny,
It's not easy to translate this title but the official translation was: "Oh when you handle things by yourself". Hope it makes sense.
..journey t Jerusalem..great!! i had all forgotte of this loved one...this is for me the winner of ESC 1999!!
@Xevus:
For me the best entry this year, i mean ESC 1999 was Germany,..for a change. The song, the lyrics, the turkish band singing in Jerusalem about Jerusalem( di you know that "nights in Jerusalem" is in German a very popular run game, this one with running around the chairs while there is a chair less than the number f the runners. I ahd also then a relationship with someone coming from Israel and i found this entry great. You should listen to this song again...i think it is the best german entry ever..and it schould have won..out of personal reasons i still feel a lot when i hear this song.. i even got the cd single as present then..and then i lost it agqin...but beside feelings, i find the idea of Germany sending a turkish band with some turkish lyrics to Jerusalem a great idea!! It came third http://www.youtube.c(...)/watch?v=gN0DDsy4F2M
Stockholm,
LOL!!!!
What is the real Swedish translation?? (masturbate free version!)
Jonny,
lol
If you say/sing the three first words very fast it sounds like Swedish for "masturbate". Some people were very upset about it.
Marija Magdalena was one of the BEST entries ever!
It should have won in '99.
Well obviously i'm happy that my country won (Sweden) but if i'm being objective then Croatia had the best entry that year.
Jonny,
"La dolce vita" was their 2004 entry. It ended up in 3rd place in MF. Last year they didn't qualify with their "Åh när ni tar saken i egna händer". Try to pronounce that
Stockholm calling
I just tried . . . . . . . . and failed!!!! lol
Stockholm calling
Oh I see!! Didn't "After Dark" perform the song "la dolce vita", I love that song!!! Its so camp, so fun, so eurovision!!
Jonny,
Yeah, I think Terry liked that part of the show where Lill dropped her skirt. I guess you've watched the video clip on YouTube.
Btw, the skirt was designed by Christer Lindarw from After Dark. After Dark participated in Melodifestivalen in 2004 and 2007.
I've never seen any of the 1980's contests, infact i've only seen 2000, 2003, 2004-2008!
Not exactly a wide range is it!! (Although I have all of the songs from 1999-2008)
Although from what i've heard and see, Lill Lindfors was a great presenter, especially the bit where she dropped her skirt!! Terry Wogans comments were "The Swedes have got a knock about sense of humour haven't they!?"
Stockholm, omg you met Lill aswell!!
I wish I was Swedish lol!!!
LOL nice to disagree. I think 1983 was a horrible year, 1987 was great production, but horrible songs. And 1993, 1994 and 1995 are three of my favourite years. I don't like the fact Ireland won so much in the nineties, but there were so many great songs those three years.
I like the 1985 contest thanks to our lovely Lill who was a brilliant host
I've met her a couple of times and she's hilarious.
The Swedish song is one of the 4 Swedish entries I think deserved to win (the other entries being 1974, 1995, 2007). The winning song was no favourite of mine.
@ ws
..well we talk about 23 years ago and the 80's. Considering this i find the stage very modern, the host indeed excellent and i liked many of the songs, and yes norway was not my favourite, but they were fresh for their time and a change from all the previous serious winning entries. ESC 1985=great, ESC 1983, 1987=very very good, 90-97 ESC=crap...
1986: what a complete disaster! What a crap winner! Ouch!!!
BRRRR, apart from the brilliant host, I hate the 1985 contest. Awful winning song, runner-up is also crap in my opinion. And there are no overlooked gems between the other songs. And the whole staging looks very dated, and not in a good way.
i just finished watching her on you tube in ESC 1986 and 1999..i did not like the songs at all. And strangely enourh i find both these contest ne of the worst ever: ESC 1999 was full of rather good songs, apart from the boring winning song from Charlotte and her awfull performance on stage, but sung by artists who could not sing live. I loved the song "Tha ine erotas"-Cyprus, but the girl could hardly sing it live. the same goes to this Croatian artist, the sng was ok, her vocals bad. and about 1986..what can i say?..well these 80's...this silly girl song winning..and the rest totally uninteresting. But ESC 1985 remains one of my favourites ever, i have watched it it 1000 times
Lady Sarantuya B. you should either stop taking those pills either increase enourmosly the quantity of the pills you obviously take!
Lady Sarantuya B., LOL!!!
OMG that's the witch that tried to kidnap my daughter, Bayartsetseg. I hope she fails in her career. She doesn't deserve success, nor love. BURN THE WITCH I SAY!!!
OMG THATS THE WITCH THAT TRIED TO KIDNAP MY DAUGHTER!!
I hope she fails in her career, in love, and above all, in life.
She's a disgrace to the female race.
Let's burn the witch!
OH I LOVED HER SONG MARIJA MAGDALENA
HER GRANDPARENTS ARE FROM SERBIA!!!!!
AND SHE STILL LOOKS SO YOUNG AND SHE'S ONLY 47 YEARS OLD
I like very much "Zeljo moja". Very classy performance ! "Maria Magdalena" is nice also, but there's something "overloaded" in it imo.
