Sweden: Perrelli performs live on National Day
The tradition of celebrating this date began in the 1910's at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium, in honour of the election of King Gustav Vasa in 1523, as this was considered the foundation of modern Sweden.
Here is a videoclip of Charlotte Perrelli, representative for Sweden at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, performing her Eurovision song 'Hero' which finished in 18th place at the Eurovision final last month.

About the pirates, it's obvious kids voted for them. Kids do vote and they all have cell phones, you know. I wasn't surprised at Latvia's placing since most kids in my neighbourhood already knew the song..lol
The only reason we didn't give them any points was that Greeks in general vote a lot for Eurovision and other songs got more votes (Thank God, because I really hate joke entries!)
@Stockholm calling
You're welcome
@Willox Willox
I agree - especially about Pirates. I hate those "joke songs" and I'm glad Sweden never sends something like that. I think a half of the songs on my mp3 are Swedish, so I guess that shows what I feel about Swedish music
Who would you like to see representing Sweden next year? I think it would be really cool to see Mans Zelmerlow or BWO
vladimir, people ins weden arent happy with charlottes results. but they dont blame her. she had a great song a great act etc etc... iut was europeans fault...
i mean come on a bunch of pirates got more points..hahahah
gooo charlotte..
Vladimir P:
Thank you
Charlotte the best
I agree with Vladimir P
I'm really surprised that so many people are happy that Charlotte flopped and that they are writing so many offending things about her, As someone from Serbia, I was really happy to see her in Belgrade since she is a great performer and a true professional. I love "Hero" and I think it should have scored much better.
real singers of ESC 2008 are Vania from Portugal, Maria Haukaas from Norway, the Israeli singer. Good performers are Kalomoira from Greee an Ani Lorak fron Ukraine. Charlotte was nothing of the two, that is why she practically failed in the semis and she reachedthe 18th position in the final. By the way isn't she the same woman who takes part in this nordic preview show of the contest and maes some very bad comments on the participants? Well nw she became the one to getalso some nasty cmments.
Сharlotte is a real singer. She has a beautiful voice and her songs are amazing. She is superb. Her 18th place is a diagnosis for that system of voting. Horrible mosters are winners and a real singer 18th. (((

I'm glad you like the DVDs. "Se på mig", "Kärleken är" and "I morgon är en annan dag" are some of my Swedish favourites too, and of course "The worrying kind" and "Waterloo"
give "hero" to Helena Paparizou and she would make the winning song out of it and a european hit..i am sure of this..Anyway Helena is also partly Swedish...
@ Stockholm calling,
You are very wellcome my friend. You know, watching those Melodifestivalen DVD's, made me realise once again why I love the festival so much. I remember all those great entries, some better than others but on the average excellent stuff. My favorite Swedish entries are :
1) I morgon ar en annan dag
2) En dag
3) Se pa mej
4) Den vilda
5) Karleken ar
3 out of 5 sung by males ???? I remember fancying Christer Bjorkman in those days very much, with his sleepy eyes. He didn't age very well....
i suppose also that Charlotte is a very nice person, i have nothing against her in any way, but i never thought of her not bac in 1999 not today as the winner of any ESC. Ithin she is contented that she managed once to win, that is more than great in her case...i wish all the best to her and ti sweden fr next year

Welcome back and thanks for your kind words about Sweden!
Talking about plastic surgery: Anni tried everything to look younger than 30 years ago...
''they showed Charlotte in the final, about 10 years ago, she was just the same as now''
See what a good plastic surgeon can do? They can make you look exactly the same as 10 years ago
(this was a joke
)
What I meant was that she already looked weird 10 years ago, ... But like somebody wrote before, eurovision is a SONG contest and not a miss election. Although I can understand peole being put off by the looks of someone and not vote for it. I only hope that Sweden will not hold it against Charlotte and that she will make more of her career now she's in the spotlights. But saying that, coming with the weak CD like she did, I am scared that people will forget about Charlotte once again...
I was watching that DVD about 50 year of Melodifestivalen. And when they showed Charlotte in the final, about 10 years ago, she was just the same as now. She just loves her make up, and the more the better.... I bet she is really nice though....
Naahhh, not Ani, she would be too much for this song I think. Besides, I'm not sure she can sing without shaking her body and not easy to shake much with Hero
@Mina:
lool..yes that is the problem with her looks: the cat eyes and the huge forehead..maybe she is not even face-lifted, as everybody thought by seeing her again in the ESC 2008. Bu I must say the song is very good afterall, ...............if performed...by .Helena Paparizou or as second choice Ani Lorak
Oh and about Charlotte, I don't find her ugly (Marija IS ugly), just scary looking..I think it's the big forehead and the cat's eyes. But ugly...noway.
marc,
welcome back...yes, the heat here is terrible, I don't know how we can stand it, sometimes I wish I lived in Alaska..lol
About eurovision songs, many are still played over here...chiqui chiqui, believe, qele qele, hold on be strong, shady lady..depending on the club..lol
You're absolutely right, Michael. And what about the Olsen Brothers and Sertab, not exactly the prettiest people in the contest, but who cares: they were not taking part in a beauty contest!
@Michael UK
it may be right, Marija do not look that pretty, but she looks healthy and content with herself. Charlotte looks skinny and kind of face lifted. And the way she looks, it is also the way she performs hero, which is actually a good song
Just back from a lovely week in sunny Greece, last thursday 42 degrees... Mina, how do you guys stand that heat ??? I was very surprised to hear on numerous occasions eurovision songs... The one I heard the most was Norway's Maria.... The Greeks seem to love that one. I love Greece so much, wants to go and live in Athens with my Greek husband. I bought that DVD of Melodifestivalen (50 year) and must say that it's really impressive, what the Swedes done over the years. So well done Sweden and do not let this year let you down, next year just sent once again a winner...
Talkin' bout Charlotte..
Who is Charlote?
Mina,
Don't tell him he's good - he starts flooding ))
