Turkish Parliament committee in discussions
Turkey: No more English in Eurovision?
The Turkish Parliament is currently working on the development of a new educational system and new legislation to protect and develop the country's language against degeneration. A Parliamentary Reasearch Commission was formed to determine measures which are necessary for this.
One of the issues the commission mentioned is that Turkey should compete with Turkish lyrics in the Eurovision Song Contest. The final proposal has not been submitted yet and it will be up to the Turkish Parliament to decide whether this rule will be included in the project.
Turkey competed 3 times entirely in English. In 2003, Sertab won the Eurovision Song Contest with Everyway that I can, in 2004, Athena came 4th with For real and in 2007 Kenan Doğulu came 4th again with Shake it up şekerim. Turkey also competed 4 times in Turkish and English. The country’s first top 3 position came with Dinle in 1997 . That was the most successful Turkish entry with Turkish lyrics besides 2008, Deli ( 7th) and 1986, Halley(9th).
A very special thank you to Hakan Yalcinkaya for the submission of the article.

Vincent, chill a little bit!!
We're hardly doing anything wrong!!
If there was a real problem with us talking about the football, then our comments would have been removed by now!!
Oh, come on Vincent, be a little more flexible
Euro as well as Eurovision brings European countries together..it's normal to talk a bit about it.
Besides, it's over this week
@marco sirio:
what does football has to do with the eurovision contest? i do not like this attitude, nt at all, just because ESC is a national thing, also, it is not football. football is sport and ESC is music and show..
I like the idea of every country singing the whole song or at least a part of it inthe country language, even with the risk of loosing some points. That was also part of the charm of this contest..to listen to other, foreign languages and get a feeling for them
by the way, my comment about not mixing footbal with the ESc goes not only to marco sirio, but also to the rest, even to my beloved Mina Carnation :-)
I support Turkey in Euro 2008 ! Actually i didn't think Turkey as a good team ; but they showed us the real fact ! Congratulations to you , Turkey !
I think our parliament should do something to preserve Turkish language in Turkey first. Most of the shops and boutıqes etc.named in foreign languages. Plus English in ESC is the only way win.
Keith,
I'm officially supporting Russia but I do want Turkey in the final. I'm tired of the 'favourites' who don't justify that title. Spain-Italy last night was nothing like the match I would expect from 2 of the supposedly best teams!
@Mina: Yes, you're good
I'm now officially supporting Turkey in Euro 2008!
@Keith,
I told you Spain would win tonight...I'm gooddddd
Burr,
I'm Greek...we learn about football before we learn how to talk.
lol
Alex,
you're Turkish, so it would be strange if you didn't
By the way, the game between Italy and Spain is boring. I don't think that any of those 2 can beat the Russians...at least the Russians as they played yesterday.
@ Keith
I share the same supportive feelings for Turkey that you do :-)
Mina is the biggest footbal fan everywhere!!
Interestingly, none of the leaders of groups A, B and C have been able to advance from the quarter-finals. If this is symptomatic, then Italy should win tonight hehehe
And anyway, the Italian flag is the only one I have in life-size! I was also very sad to see the Netherlands lose to Russia, as I had hope 2008 would be their year. Now it looks more and more like Germany to me.
Anyway, lot of support to Turkey, Turkish football, Turkish music and the Turkish language!
Everyone says that Italy will win tonight, but I have a feeling it's going to be Spain.
We'll see what my Italy can do tonight. If they fail against Spain, you'll actually see me rooting for Turkey in Euro2008.
Indeed w s. And he's a great coach.
Well, at least the trainer Guus Hiddink is Dutch.
P.S. And they beat Holland with no help from neighbour voting
Since we talked a bit about football in this thread....CONGRATS TO RUSSIA..tonight they played an awesome match!
Suddenly Turkey-Russia for the final doesn't seem impossible anymore!
Awwwwwww w s, you're Dutch. I'm sorry
Maybe the Dutch supporters should get the Barbara Dex award.
I suggest Turkey's song this year should be sung with a combination of Turkish and Russian languages. I'm sure it will ensure the 2010 contest to be in Turkey again (maybe in Antalya this time) as it will attract votes both from the Turks in Europe and Russians in former Eastern Block. If the singer would be Tarkan, it might even double the votes ;-)
By the way, I support Turkey for the final game :-)
Talking about EUROVISION
Good LUCK TURKEY
Whatevr your Parliament decises -
Your sonds are beautful!
Please TARKAN for TURKEY 2009 in Moscow!!!
''maybe they should determine the winner of euro2008 with televoting, see what the outcome will be!! ''
Holland for sure.
Jonny K:
