Sweden: New project manager for Melodifestivalen

Ronnie Lans becomes new project manager for Melodifestivalen after Christel-Tholse Willers.

Ronnie Lans has worked with Swedish Idol and various other huge live television galas and tv-shows for many years.

Robbie Lans

There are rumours about changes for Melodifestivalen 2009. One possibility is that the final will be moved from the Globen in Stockholm to Malmö.

With the selection of a new project manager with background from Swedish TV4 and the Swedish Idol - it is apparent that Swedish Television tries to give Melodifestivalen a new boost and direction.

That might be needed after Charlotte Perrelli's dissapointing 18th place at Eurovision 2008 held in  Belgrade last month.

Vincent Barbarino:
I see what you mean. I thought "Hero" was a rather good song but I didn't vote for it in the Swedish NF. Hopefully we'll do better next year.

@Stockholm Calling:

yes, you are right on this, Johny Logan did win twice, but with very strong ballads and a top vocal performance and in the old times of jury and old fashioned ESC. I had in mind the ESC era after televoting, in the last years. And since televoting has been introduced, in fact there has not eve been one country winning 2 times in a row.
In any case i found Charlotte's song not good, old-fashion swedish pop, which is not that popular anymore in the contest, with n special merit and the worst of all is that this star looked sick and scaring n stage. For me no wonder that Sweden scored so bad this year..A better luck for next year!

according to me hero was the most ld-fashioned song of this year contest and i it is ajoke that they wanted t win with such an entry. Once winner does not mean winner for ever. Actually it is the other way round, noone has ever maneged to win this contest twice. the only feeling i got from Charlotte's appearance was an urge to send her to a clinic for eating disorders and youth obsession

Chig Chig - re your biog

Nicki French? Stalker? She only gets stalkers in her dreams lol. Who on EARTH is going to stalk Nicki French?

Whoever does MF next year can we please not have the 32 same songs we have had for the last 5 years?

i.e.

1. The Carola one
2. The Abba one
3. The other not so good Abba one
4. The one in Spanish with the black person
5. The one with the stupid title
6. The hoary Swedish Sanna Nilsson ballad
7. The transvetitish one
8. The grim Swedish comedy routine by old firemen
9. The grisly elf routine ethnic one
10. The old man singing a nasty ballad one
11. The horrid zitty boy with a hiphop routine that doesn't work
12. Anyone wearing white
13. Anyone with silver hair
14. Muscled dancers in tight trousers
15. The kind of Turkish one done in Swedish in the vain hope that locals might vote for it
16. the rap one

OK admittedly there might not be anything else left in Sweden but I feel better for saying it

Listen guys I have been told that Mia Rose is going to represent Portugal in the next eurovision song contest...I´m so excited cause I love her...she is so nice...I now know that she will make some musics with other compousers and then the public will dicide wich one is the best!

Mia Rose is the stage name of Maria Antonia Sampaio Rosa, an English/Portuguese singer-songwriter who rose to fame through the popular video sharing website youtube.

I think they should let people decide who goes to eurovision and forget about the jury. If we followed jury's votes, Kalomoira would never go to eurovision.

I have the same theory as Chig Chig about Sweden's result this year! This is the real reason, no doubt about that! All my friends who don't follow ESC and watched her had the exact same reaction!

@ Björn Lin.:

Indeed, it's obvious that he is living way back in the past!

@Florian G
I agree. SVT may make a development recruiting this guy, but if we want a good placing, Björkman must be fired. It seems he's still living in the 80's.

"...a new boost and direction. That might be needed after Charlotte Perrelli's dissapointing 18th place at Eurovision 2008 held in Belgrade last month."

It's not the person behind Melodifestivalen that brought Sweden such a poor result (although you could argue that the people's choice, Sanna Nielsen, might have been the fairer choice), so changing the director won't have much effect. Sweden's result was down to the unwordly, feline looks of Ms Perrelli herself.

I watched the final outside Belgrade City Hall with thousands of locals. As the camera panned from the microphone to Charlotte's face, there were sharp intakes of breath, from thousands of people, swiftly followed by laughter at her alien-looking face. At the end of the song, they booed. Only Albania and Croatia had a worse reception, and they were for local reasons. At that moment, I realised that Sweden were doomed. Those reactions will have been repeated millions of times across Europe. We, the fans and Swedish people, have grown accustomed to her changing face, but we've forgotten just how weird she looks when you're never seen her before.

I believe the same song, with the same routine, by a singer who looked more human, would have given Sweden a better result.

Florian G

He didn´t actually write the 1992-entry...so he can´t be blamed for that. (Giving a rather dull performance of it is of course another thing!)

But him being so involvled in a lot of aspects of Melodifestivalen makes me think maybe he could take a step back. Bring in some fresh minds (like this new guy), why not?

Stockholm calling [44413]

I like Christer Björkman and I don't see who could possibly replace him. He puts his heart and soul into Melodifestivalen. The 1992 entry is in my Swedish top 6 :)

"move the final to Malmö". I hope not, I go to the dress rehearsal every year.

Excuse me swedish ... executive guyz,
do you think that it was the former director of Melodifestivalen that brought such a disappointing outcome for Sweden?! lol
Sweden is the country that always gives professional n exceptional performances , maybe simple but those do be Eurovision .

I hope Sweden continues sending such entries , and why not sth even better and different?

Sanna Nielsen do it again !

Perhaps the Swedes should decide about that themselves, Florian. Actually I think MF still is one of the best and most popular preselection shows, and I don't see what's wrong with the voting system. I really don't think any other song from MF would have done much better than Perelli this year.
