San Marino: Little Tony wants to go to Russia

Little Tony wants to celebrate fifty years of music career by representing San Marino in their second attempt in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Russia. The 67 year old artist was president of the jury that chose the country's first representatives in the contest, Miodio.

Last night, Little Tony stated on the SMTV news that he wold be very happy to represent his country in next year's Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Russia after Dima Bilan's victory in Belgrade two weeks ago. He will soon ask artists to submit songs for him to choose from.

Little Tony has been around Italian show business for fifty years now having released 29 albums and starred in numerous films, his greatest hit being Un cuore matto in 1967. This year, he made his comeback by participating in the San Remo Festival. "I am extremely happy" Little Tony said during the presentation of his 2008 calendar, "I will have a fantastic song written, not only to celebrate my 50 year anniverary but for San Marino as well".

Yeah but San Marino used a jury & we all know that juries tend to vote for songs like this..at least they USEd to!

@ Candyman's Combination
Because Romania's song was so boring and nothing like today's italian music at all! Singing in a language instead of another is not enough to get votes from a determinate Country, I guess.

@ Candyman's Combination
just because Romania used some lines in Italian it doesn't mean it must to be voted by San marino or Italy...

@eddy

Having spoken with the Sammarinese speaker, I may confirm that San Marino has used a jury for both the semi-final and the final.

Anyway, a 70-years old R'n'R glory born and grown up in Rome to represent San Marino is not the best news I could read on ESC 2009.

@Lucio I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. I was there to attend a language course and I lived with russian people in their homes. It was an amazing experience for me.
Anyway, the ESC in Helsinki was an amazing experience too ;-) Let me say thank you for the wonderful event: it was also my only time (until now) at the ESC.

I agree. The results of the Andorran jury voting were weird.
I've now found this piece of information: "It's rumoured that on the final 95% of the votes of the Andorran televoting were for Spain, with only other 7 countries obtaining votes..."

@ Andrew Stewart, have you ever been to Russia? It's no horrible unfriendly place at all, in my opinion. I was there about 15 years ago when the situation was even more difficult than now, and I found a fascinating place and fascinating people. Mark my words, San Marino will be there. Hopefully with someone a bit younger than Little Tony, but I'm glad anyway. I hope I will be there too and enjoy the show and the city.
@ Mina Carnation, I know for sure it was a jury. Both semifinal and final. I'd also have expected a different choice, I agree with you, but I suppose they liked the simple and catchy tune and smiling, lively Kalomira!

well always the majority of andorran televotes go to Spain. But i can't believe they didn't like the rest of the songs.. :-( there were so many good entries in the final! but it might be true!

it was also weird that the jury didn't give any pts to Spain but gave douze pts to Ukraine which was the kitchiest perfomance of the night. what kind of jury was?

Candyman's Combination/Jonny K:

I read somewhere that the reason why Andorra had to use a jury last year was that the majority of the televotes went to Spain and that the viewers had voted for less than 10 countries.

In the final. San Marino used jury vote. I read it somewhere on the net. Not sure though about the semifinal !

Albania uses jury in the finals when they don't qualify due to low interest. This year, they used televoting since Olta passed to the final.

In 2006 they used jury, hence the 10pts to Sweden.

Andorra has used jury,if i'm right, in 2005 final, not sure about 2006,used jury for sure in 2007 because no douze pointe for spain which was unfair! they gave 12p to ukraine? what a weird jury! this year i think they finally used televoting.(10p portugal 12p spain)

Is there anyone from San Marino here to tell us for sure? Because I remember I had read somewhere that in the end they managed to fix the problem and vote by phone.

I think Monaco, San Marino and even Albania are all countries that will/have use juries regularly. As for Andorra, i'm not so certain whether they use a jury every year?? I don't think they used a jury this year because they gave Spain 12 points as always, however last year they gave no points to Spain at all and gave Ukraine the 12 points, so they may have used a jury then, but I can't see a jury giving 12 points to Verka!!

thanks for the answer Chris.
I have read somewhere else as well that San Marino doesn't have a telephone company.

Monaco used jury vote also in 2005-2006 due to low telephone calls.

I guess that Andorra used televoting this year in the final?

@MIna, jurymembers are just plain peope of flesh and blood. It is not that because they are a member of a jury, they only love ballads.

''By the way San Marino is always a jury vote, because there's no Sammarinese telephone company... it comes under Italy''

Are you sure about that? It seems strange to me that a jury would give Greece 12 points. Not that our song wasn't good but I would expect a different choice by a jury (Portugal maybe).

I loved Biondo's "Shine" but Nico and Vlad had a very good song too. Biondo said in an interview that they thought "Pe-o Margine de Lume" was beautiful.

"Their broadcasters, at least RTVA, are very conscious about they have no chances for victory anyway, but they're not especially worried by that."

Speaking with Creu Rosell (HoD Andorra), Andorra will come back in 2009. She said to me the most important thing for them (Andorra) is that they are here and their main goal is to pass to the final. I think San Marino TV will have the same perspective and goal.

You see - this is the kind of rubbish you have to deal with in Russia!
MOSCOW -- Ukraine's National Television Co. has threatened to revoke the license of Russian channel RTR Planeta, accusing it of illegally broadcasting this year's Eurovision Song Contest in the Ukraine last month.

NTC asserts that all the rights for broadcasting the music event in Ukraine belonged to the country's state-controlled channel First National (UT-1) and that RTR Planeta broadcast the show illegally.

However, the Russian channel, which broadcasts in the CIS countries, Western Europe, U.S. and Canada via cable or satellite, shrugged off the accusations, saying that it has a valid contract allowing it to broadcast the event in Ukraine.
