Stage design revealed
JESC - Minor format changes introduced
The maximum amount of children on stage at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest has been reduced to six instead of eight, just like at the Eurovision Song Contest.
The Steering Group of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest also decided to give the back-up jury a 50% say in the outcome of the competition. According to the rules of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, the back-up jury has to be a diverse group of people, and should include children.
The 2008 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which is the 6th running, will take place on the 22nd of November in Lemesos, Cyprus. The show will be hosted by Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, the presenters are unknown yet. The Host Broadcaster did reveal that the show will be hosted by a man and a woman, in the roles of Adonis and Aphrodite.
The second Heads of Delegation meeting, which also marks the deadline to officially enter songs, takes place on the 13th and 14th of October. The running order will be drawn during the October meeting as well.
CyBC revealed the stage design as well (photo). The set was designed by George Papadopoulos, who got inspired by previous Eurovision Song Contest stages, the theme Fun In The Sun and water that surrounds the island of Cyprus. The front side of the set will contain real water.

i dont understand why the people things that with jury esc is better, esc is not like 10 years before, do u thing that ex-yugo or ex-soviets jurys is not going to vote fore the "brothers" countreys and they are going to vote for netherlands, belgium,sweden etc? we saw what jurys do this year , they vote for that bad song from sweden and the problems si that EBU didnt tell us the foull jury voting of each countrey ! personal i dont trust jurys and EBU also after this year "secret" jury voting!

Its quite funny because if you look at this stage closely you will see that -

> The left half is from Riga 2003
> The back & catwalk is from Jerusalem 1999
> And generally it resembles Belgrade 2008

You can't compare football to music. In football, and sports in general, people have NO CONTRIBUTION, they're just spectators.
IN ESC, people vote for their favourite.
If we voted in football too, you can be sure I would have the same opinion, that everyone should vote for their favourite team.

the voting at esc used to be exciting , now its so predictable, surely this cannot continue
definitely every participant has the right to vote,from the two semifinals 18 countries in total were eliminated,we have a population of many millions in those countries who paid to participate,they like eurovision as much as you do and they want to contribute equally as you to the results,even if they lost, the right to choose what they liked is not removed,at least they can vote in the final otherwise the reason to watch it would be worthless.

'also why should all the losers be allowed to vote?' is not right. ESC represents the whole of Europe and the final should be an event for all Europeans, at least the countries that participate in it (the event, not just the final).
The countries that don't make it to the final still have the right to have an opinion on the winning song.

And Celine Dion performing in Globen, that must be quite an event! In fact on the subject of Globen, I just got the DVD of the 2000 contest, and the opening to the 2000 contest in Globen was AMAZING!!. Truly one of the best moments in esc-history!

true , russia would still have won had all the finalists voted, but it would have been much more exciting , the result much closer, and we would have got to hear ALL the votes announced instead of the monotonous dumbed-down version we have now. also why should all the losers be allowed to vote? the only reason they are , is money , full stop !
I thinkAmy Winehouse is a rather overrated singer. She´s inside some sort of bubble that has a huge appeal to some, while others just ignore her. Besides that, honestly, one can hardly say that Sirusho can sing, let alone in tune, yet look at her almost on top of the world, while so many talented singers faced sudden death...
I would like to see Amy Winehouse represent the UK!! I mean, when shes not drunk or drugged, shes a really good singer! Unfortuanatley she will never do eurovision

Yeah, I would love to see the UK send a really good song aswell, although I think Mika said that if he were to do eurovision, he would do it for Lebanon, or not do it alll. Shame, it doesn't look as if hes going for the UK

Katrina seems invincible Much as I liked Andy's song this year (the more I listen to it, the more I like - and I did vote for it) I hope that the UK will come up with a smashing hit next year. I would like to see Mika represent the UK

Yes, "Love shine a light" is one of the best winning songs ever but not only the juries voted for it, also the 4 televoting countries gave top marks to the UK. Austria, Switzerland and Sweden gave 12 points and Germany 10 points
I recommend you to read an interesting article on o i k o t i m e s newly written by a guy who was a jury member of the UK backup jury in 2003. You will find the jury rules there too. The 50/50 system is a big step in the right direction. I'd limit the televoting too but not to only one sms; maybe 5 sms per phone would be OK.
We might understand televoting is now one of the most important sources of money and if it would decrease, the fees for the participants could raise and some countries should withdraw then.
But only televoting is proved to be unfair and also makes the results very predictable. I understand that countries like Greece or Turkey don't want this system because in the juries era they didn't use to vote for these countries, but with the mixed system it won't be as bad it was; and maybe some countries like Turkey or Armenia must be better efforts because the last two years have reached good positions with mediocre songs.
Don't limit one vote per person, i makes a persons second choice worth exactly the same as his last place
That's unbelievable! They allow a 50% jury vote in the JESC but not in the ESC! That's so unfair!
Yeah and what about Cliff Richard, where where the judges then?
