Ireland [UPD]: Johnny Logan speaks out on Dustin entry!
Ireland: RTÉ Radio 1 - Liveline phone in show (On demand 1 week - 21/5 to 28/5)
Speaking to the esctoday.com team, backing vocalists, Anne Harrington and kathleen Burke told esctoday.com "we're fine, we'll be staying on until Sunday and we'll keep partying. We loved every minute of our time here, and we just want to enjoy our stay. It would have been great to get to the final, but we did our best".
Dustin the Turkey has caused a media storm, attracting huge interest in the Eurovision Song Contest and has turned out to be a strong ambassador for the competition. Quick to praise other artists, and providing comedy and with throughout his involvement with the competition, some of his highlights include announcing his adoration of Isis Gee, his joy at meeting 'Eurovision Royalty' in the form of Bucks Fizz in London and his comment that he is sure Terry Wogan's hair is his own "because he's got the receipt".
Irish commentator, Marty Whealan, stated “What a disappointment for the Irish team. It never occurred to me in the back of my mind that we wouldn’t actually do it...But such are the vagaries of the Eurovision Song Contest. We do our best but you don’t know. The thing about this competition is you don’t know.”
[UPD] But, the Irish airwaves errupted yesterday, including 3 times Eurovision winner for Ireland, Johnny Logan voicing his opinion and calling for head's to role! Listen through the link above.

How come it's so quiet here? No reactions since Friday... the contest was yesterday. I don't believe this.
an ad for a brand is not a representation of a country which expects to be taken seriously, plus if kids would have voted just on the popularity of their character without knowing what the song was even about, the cast of Sesame Street could have opted for any country's entry these days. I bet even Kermit or any muppet had a better maneuver around the stage. Regarding Logan, I recently saw him on a German Chart show for best Eurovision pertaining to german charts alone, and he was awesome. I recommend it if youtube has it!
"four countries that qualified (Norway, Israel, Finland and Greece) do not belong to Eastern Europe."
For the purposes of Eurovision, Israel is in Europe. Norway is in Western Europe, Greece and Finland are not.
"Logan really told it to them!"
Were you listening to the same interview I was??? Johnny Logan is a joke himself and after doing a McDonalds ad is hardly in any position to lecture anyone about taking Eurovision seriously.
Also even if kids voted for Dustin, so what? Are they not entitled to? Your point is completely irrelevant and has no significance whatsoever. That was a pathetic excuse put forward by yer man on This Morning for Dustin having gone to Belgrade, especially given that most adults voted for him too. So even if kids hadn't have voted, Dustin still would've won.
For all the criticism of Dustin we still do not know how well Ireland did on Tuesday night.
For all we know Dustin could have come 11th - 1 point behind the 10th song (not such a disaster) or come 19th and last with no points.
We will only be able to judge on Saturday night when the full voting for both semis is released.
Logan really told it to them!! But also, if you listen further into the show, they mention the fact that many kids might have voted for dustin with their sms or touchphone, or their parents on behalf of them. But also they didn't mention it, this song was actually a parody, yes, but it was "begging" for points. "Ireland 12 points, come on" as the lyrics go. simply awful excuse for a "song" here
@Vladimir P:
No, one of them belongs in Asia!
Yesterday Philip Nolan from Irish Daily Mail has said that the only answer he could find to wondering hosts on question 'Where have you been all these 50 years?' was 'Watching you slaughter all your neigbours.'
If this is true then it is lowest of the low!
I mean we can talk about songs but this ... I don't understand the Irish at all. I didn't like the song for example - so what am I - a franko follower?! This just tells us about you, and it tells really bad things.
I'm not surprised that we see "anti-Eastern Europe" brigade out again, although, four countries that qualified (Norway, Israel, Finland and Greece) do not belong to Eastern Europe.
Estonia did not not qualify in recent years simply because there are only 10 qualifyers so SOMEONEAST have to stay out.
PORTUGAL and ICELAND will qualify today 100%. I just heard that a decent numbers of communities of various fish of the ATLANTIC OCEAN and fish communities aroud Europe, will be allowed to vote in tonight semifinal. Just be on the phone with a longtime sharq close friend that lives near Madeira and has "cousins" in Greenland and Faroe's ...

@garry chelsea:
I think Jims referring to the fact Scotland isn't independent and is part of the UK. Comparing Scotland to Ireland isn't comparing like for like as Ireland is a fully independent state.
VOTE FOR THE BEST....
HELP MALTA GAIN SOME POINTS, MALTA DON't HAVE ANY NEIGHBOURS WHO CAN VOTE FOR.
SO TONIGHT,
VOTE FOR MALTA
VOTE FOR MALTA
VOTE FOR MALTA
@ jim hegarty what do you mean scotland isnt a proper country, dont dare talk such rubbish, i am scottish and i am very proud to first and foremost be scottish, scotland may well be part of the u.k but i can assure you we are most definitely a country, if someone said that ireland wasnt a proper country you wouldnt like it
just have read comments, well..... nothing changed-if farting and burping act didn't go truogh, who falt is that? estern europe! -u have been jocking!!!!!!there is nothing to balme, but taht act.
Jim most Scots consider themselves Scottish before British, and its almost very likely Scotland will become independent next year, so a Scottish entry is not so far fetched, though I doubt we'll see one till 2010 at the earliest.
Ulrik.Ireland,will never withdraw. and as for Scotland,they are not a proper country,they are British,uk.
get over it he was crap so he didnt get through, end of story
Irlande nul points
was awufl
sorry awful, i am dyslexic so make mistakes.
I Just knew this wouldnt work (iam more sure for Chiki Chiki...) cause most people didnt anderstand what he was saying and to be honest even anderstanding him it wasnt funny for me...!!
Now Ireland moaning about televoting just shows they are BAD LOSERS cause at 2006 with a harder semifinal and a average ballad they passed the semifinal......(not to mention them "winning" the jury years some times deserved but sometimes "buyed" cause most countries couldnt host the contest those years e.t.c....).
As for Logan he has became graphic even when he is right or wrong ...........REAL STARS dont come ahead every eurovision year.........!!!
And another thing. Those agreeing with what Johnny Logan has to say and how much of an insult Ireland's entry was to the competition and those who it seriously - this is the same man who appeared on a McDonald's ad singing 'Hold Me Now', and who also did a rap version of the song which was a disasted, so the man is a joke himself and wouldn't know good music if he hit him in the face!
why dont we play the eastern block at their own game...IRELAND.NORTHERN IRELAND.SCOTLAND WALES ENGLAND.

Im Irish and I must say Ireland would not have deserved to qualify if we had.
The only song I was surprised by was Finland. I was disappointed for Netherlands.
I would classify Greece as southern europe, Norway and Finland as Northern, Israel as Middle eastern so overall it was a fair number of countries from across the continent to make it.
Israel and Norway gave the best performances
Ireland and Estonia the worst - so nothing to complain about really
@Alex Amos:
Pat Schehan, errrm, what coubntries? all countries from the 1st semi belong to European Broadcasting Union so they have rights to participate. This is NOT a contest of nations and it's not about what belongs to Europe and what doesn't. so relax and stop your fascist xenophobic comments. Only losers talk about withdrawal. and only idiots blame everyone except themselves.
How about Azerbaijan, Armenia, Israel, Turkey. These countries are not in Europe, they're in Asia! And as for me bring xenophoic and facist, maybe you should look up the meaning of the words because I've said nothing that can be described as such!
don't blame the mirror if you're ugly.
don't blame others if you suck
Ah would ye cop yourself on, you just sound like a childish brat now.
@Hector De Markhoff:
"You seriously are a sore loser/bad sport - just like last year having a little diva fit because your country didn't do well. Now, if EVER a song deserved last position it was Dervish - their performance on the night was to say the least HORRIBLE (I mean, even the UK agreed!)."
That would be kinda hard considering I wasn't a member of this site a year ago. But I wasn't happy with our entry last year, the song wasn't right for the group and it didn't sound good on the night. But however it went, I couldn't give a toss what the UK think, they have their own sh*te to worry about and are in no position to be criticising entries of other countries. And I'm just repeating what most of the Irish nation thinks atm. People are just sick of the corruption thats going on between Eastern states so they can get into the final, i.e. political voting. Thats whats ruining the competition, and ultimately, its the involvement of Eastern Europe that will be the downfall of Eurovision!
"Just accept the fact that Ireland came last for two years in a row because your entries SUCKED! Period. And you know what; you know it's true, but you are letting patriosm get the best of you.
I'll accept we sucked last year, but I won't for a second accept we sucked this year. Dustin went out there on Tuesday and did his country proud, and he should be going through on Saturday given the pure CRAP that went on stage, some of which is going through to the final, and why? Because they're Eastern European! And its nothing to do with patriotism or bias, it's simply stating the facts - Eurovision is a farce.
