25 years in the show business anniversary edition

Carola: Främling special edition to be released

It’s now been twenty five years since Carola entered the Melodifestivalen stage for the first time with the Swedish smash hit Främling. Soon, the popular Swedish artist will be competing for the fifth time and will in one month release a special edition of her debut album.

Five years ago Carola celebrated her 20th anniversary as an artist with a show, double album and a DVD. This time around, she will celebrate with a remastered version of her debut album Främling. Apart from the original songs there will be the bonus album Happy days from 1985 that has never been released on CD before, just vinyl. Happy days is  a collection of live recordings, demos and singles.  Främling will also be included in its Dutch, English and German versions. Her other Melodifestivalen entries will also be included in Swedish and English.

The album Främling will be released on the 20th February, one week after her performance of One love with Andreas Johnson in Melodifestivalen. The pair has just released the single Lucky star. You can listen to a snippet of the song here.

Carola will also have an anniversary concert at the Palladium in Malmö on February 26 - the exact date that she had her breakthrough on that very stage announces carolainternational.com.

Congratulations Carola!Welcome to Belgrade! ;)

Some people enjoy Carola - some Lordi and some Madonna.
That´s life - don´t worry be happy guys!

I really don´t understand why people think Carola is big outside Sweden and (possibly) Norway. None of the non-Swedish Eurovision-winners through the years are big in Sweden either. For example, the Estonian winner ("Hello everybody" ;) was never a big hit here and I doubt Carolas "Captured by a lovestorm / Fångad av en stormwind" was a massive hit in various European countries and Anna Vissi who is an icon in Greece (I think) is not a mainstream success in Sweden (just to name a few). The event is bigger than it´s contestants.

@ Alexis Mozzart!

Carola might be still a big name in Sweden (maybe in Denmark and Finland too, if you want), but no in the whole Europe. That's a myth. Besides the ESC-fans, I really doubt somebody in Spain, Hungary or Greece knows who she is.

I don´t know what I was thinking....

Of course you´re name is Fabio.... Sorry!

And it´s buy..not by. ;)

@ Fabia Deluca

Since Per Gessle released his Mazarin-album a few years a go and Carola´s "Främling" is from 1983 it´s not strange at all that she might still have the best selling album in Sweden. Why? Well, people dont by records that much anymore, with all the downloading and so on. Simple as that. :)

Whatever happens Carola will still be a big name in Europe and a well known and reputated artist in the Eurovision! Like it or not, every year we need a mixture of things; Carola's fraction in this mixture is probably cheesy eurovision music- usually appreciated by all and very often presented by good old Sweden, who try to find the "Abba" secret in every melodifestivalen! She has high chances to win, she is the most popular artist in her country for god's sake! And if she does and goes to the esc, then she will do well, and will also do her best to win it once again!

sounds like a record by the Bucks Fizz from the early 80's.

HAHA, true. It also had that typically Swedish gutsy, slightly pompous, manically cheerful "oopmh" drilling quality which some find very offputting.

There's a local diva with blindly indiscriminate and infinitely loyal fans in every country taking part in Eurovision. In Sweden obviously it's Carola, in Serbia she's called Ivana Jordan. :P

I doubt 'Främling' is the best selling album ever. How can an album that charted 12 weeks, to beat an album that charted 66 and was 13 weeks at the top?

I loved the second Acropolis reference! Hahahaha. By the way, the song by Amina was a lot better. 'Fångad av en stormvind' as not aged well, sounds like a record by the Bucks Fizz from the early 80's.

OK OK, she is good,a goddess, a legend, the eighth wonder, the second Acropolis you name it i BUT five times??? And thinking she can't make it on her own she brings back up?

For the love of God this is becoming too much and too desperate. And what about the rest of the Melodifestivalen participants? They go to all the trouble to find out a few days before the semi that they are competing against her ? Again???

I can't say I hope she loses (although I am tempted as it would probably put an end to that), I can say though that I hope the best song wins regardless of how "momumental" the performer is.

Yeah, and unlike those three she has no international carreer.

And I have to add that Carola has a long career but she is still very young! Only 3 years older then Jennifer Lopez, 9 years younger then Madonna and she is 41 just like Janet Jackson!

Congratulations to Carola with her anniversary. And about 1991: the French song wasn't that good at all. It was different though. For me it was a battle between Sweden and Israel. But the song that stole my heart away was from Italy ! (Peppino di Capri) It was my first time as a reporter there, made friends for life with Georgina from Malta, met Jahn Teigen, who did the commentary for Norway that year, and all the people from Iceland, Cyprus and Malta (who were in the same hotel) were fantastic. Hanne Krogh (Just 4 fun) adorable too.... But... I have to stick to the topic, Carola is a wonderful contribution to the contest. I really look forward to her new album and will surely buy it. She is the one that made Melodifestivalen so big in Sweden, no doubt about that !

@Darko,

At least someone who gets my point.... Thanks my friend. And NO I 'm not even French.

Darko S. [38353]

Hehe, I think Kris touched the nerve - many people dislike her precisely because of that win over Amina (I myself felt like jumping off the 10th floor). And then she even had the "audacity" to come back again, whereas Amina of course didn't/couldn't....and here she is yet again, turning up like a bad penny....that's how plenty of people reason. ;)

Shame Silvia and her angelic tongue won't be on call in Belgrade if Carola indeed wins the MF and comes here, which itself is very likely. :P

There are so many winners that shouldn't have won, and losers that shouldn't have lost. Fact is Carola won according to the rules. Every contestant approves of those rules, so there is no need to complain afterwards.

Les couleur et les gouts, on se discute pas.... 10 people, 10 opinions.... Amina 's song was probable the best song ever in eurovision. But that's personal taste off course.

I actually disagree with the opinion that france should have woned the ESC1991 her song wasnt anything special. but carolas låt then was really great. she deserved to win and the won!!

Correction: 13 weeks in total, but no consecutive.

Jan:

I agree with you, somehow. I only don't like when some people paint her as "the one and only", "the most successful" or "the best" Swedish singer ever. Many other Swedish artists had a long career through the years, and deserve some recognition as well.

Regarding her first album, I don't know abything about the sale figures. I found it peaked at #1 for only one week (it stayed in the chart for 12 weeks). On the other side, Per Gessle's 'Mazarin' album (maybe the best he has ever recorded) spent 66 weeks in the chart, and was at #1 for 13 consecutive weeks. I don't want to be biased, but I thinks that's a great achievement too.

If Carola, after two nearly wins and 1 actual (undeserved) win (France should have won that year), still is unknown outside Sweden and Norway, I would think she should call it a day. Let her be a megastar in Sweden, but do we really have to see and listen to her once more ?? Give us some good new Swedish artist instead of this has been....I really do not think that with a 4th participation, all at once Europe will close her in their arms. So Carola, for my part, participate each year at Melodifestivalen, but do not annoy me with a participation every few years at eurovision.

Jan Lengwenath [37443]

@ Fabio

On the other hand, she is sort of a legend. Her first album back in 1983 was the best selling album in Sweden EVER. This record lasts until today. Not even ABBA recorded such a successful album in Sweden.

I think it should be appreciated that even after 25 years she is still there, there are very few artists, who can achieve that. And don´t forget: Her last christmas album was No. 6 in the annual album charts of 2007 in Sweden, although it was only released in mid-november. Not too bad, or what do you think ?

I am not negative, but the facts speak by themselves. There's no need to make a lie up.

Daniel: Hehe, thanks, I try. As for what will be her driving force in the next 25 years (apart from naked ambition) is anyone's guess and remains to be seen ;)

i find it strange that people are always negative towards carola, but in the enxt minute she leads the poll on who will win melodifestivalen? strange, i dont like her. and i didnt vote for her.
