Biography
Welsh born Jessica Garlick won the UK’s "Song for Europe" selection programme with a staggering 68\% of votes, leaving the other songs trailing well behind her.
The twenty one year old has already had an extraordinary six months after emerging as one of the stars of "Pop Idol", the TV phenomenon sweeping Europe. She may not have won "Pop Idol" but the publicity she got made her an obvious choice to sing one of the entries in "Song for Europe".
Throughout March and April Jessica performed in front of huge audiences at venues across the United Kingdom as part of the "Pop Idol" tour including five nights at London’s Wembley Arena and on one special night in the presence of HRH Prince Charles. She shouldn’t therefore find Eurovision audience too daunting!
“I never ever wanted to be anything, but a singer” says Jessica. "Love shine a light" by Katrina and the Waves was one of the first songs I ever learnt when I was in a girl band at the age of 17. We sang that song on all our shows !”
Having won the BBC’s "Star for a Night" talent show, being one of the 10 finalists on "Pop Idol" and then winning "Song for Europe" Jessica is now looking forward to the Eurovision night itself performing live in Estonia - “To go from that to this, representing the UK, it's great, it really is.
Until May 2002 Jessica had not left the UK until invited to perform "Come Back" across Europe.
