Biography
One of today’s most popular bands will represent Denmark at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The duo is known as "Rollo & King" and behind the name stands Søren Poppe and Stefan Nielsen. As always when "Rollo & King" perform, they will have the singer Signe Svendsen on stage with them. Finally, Jarno Varsted will be contributing on mouth organ.
Both Søren Poppe and Stefan Nielsen are trained schoolteachers and their collaboration began in 1994 when they met each other at teaching college. Signe Svendsen will soon graduate as a musician and music teacher after four years at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory. In addition to being a member of "Rollo & King", Signe has sung backup for many other Danish artists and groups to include "Aqua".
Søren Poppe and Stefan Nielsen wrote the number that they are going to perform on their homefield in Copenhagen. Søren Poppe composed the music and Stefan Nielsen wrote the English lyrics. And it is rather unusual because normally when they work together, Søren Poppe is the one who writes the song while Stefan Nielsen arranges the music.
That the work is quite naturally divided this way is due to the fact that Stefan, in addition to his teaching career, is also heavily involved in Classical and sings choral music. He also spends what little time he has left studying at The Danish University of Education. Søren Poppe has a background as a percussionist, but today does the daily work of writing the duo’s songs.
