Biography
One half of the duo that will represent Estonia already has experience with the Eurovision Song Contest. Last year Tanel Padar was part of the back vocals for the Estonian artist Ines. But this year he has made his way into the front row with Dave Benton (real name Efrèn Benita) who has no Eurovision Song Contest experience as yet, but has enormous experience in other fields. As a drummer and back up singer, he has worked with names like The Drifters, Tom Jones, Billy Ocean, José Feliciano and The Platters.
While Tanel Padar was born and raised in Estonia, Dave Benton is from the Caribbean island of Aruba, where he was born and grew up. Later, he traveled through almost all the continents performing until he decided to settle down in Estonia. In addition to the duo that Dave Benton and Tanel Parar have created for the Eurovision Song Contest song and which they intend to continue with, each has their own recording and performing careers.
Both the composer and writer behind this year’s Estonian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest have previous experience with the Eurovision Song Contest. Ivar Must wrote the song that became Estonia’s entry, the first time the country participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994. And Maian-Anna Kärmas helped write the song that represented Estonia in 1999.
Maian-Anna Kärmas is also a vocalist and has competed several times in the national Estonian Song Contest. Ivar Must is also an entertainer and has been in several bands. Recently he has also produced various successful artists, including the group 2XL, who are the backing group for Tanel Padar and Dave Benton.
