Biography

Imaani was born in Nottingham and moved to Derby at the age of five. She never believed she could make a career out of singing, but, seven years ago, a chance meeting with a record producer drew Imaani into the music industry. From the first moment she sang and was paid for it, she knew she wanted nothing else. Imaani has worked with an array of popular artists from Lulu to The Pretenders and James Brown to Michael Bolton. A highlight of her recent work has been a world tour with Incognito.

Scott English is a Brooklyn-born songwriter, music publisher and record producer who has written for artists as diverse as Elvis Presley, The Animals, Tom Jones and Jeff Beck. His most famous compositions are the million selling Bend Me, Shape Me recorded by Amen Corner and Gilla and the four million selling Mandy recorded in 1975 by Barry Manilow. The last song was already a hit for Scott himself in the USA as early as 1972, then under its original title Brandy. Over the years Scott has been awarded over 35 platinum, gold and silver discs.

Simon Stirling and Phil Manikiza have been regular writing partners since 1993. Together they have written for Rozalla, Jaki Graham and have recently had a Top 30 hit with Irish teen band OTT. Simon, Phil and Scott have been writing together since the early-90's and are currently working on lmaani's album. Prior to this year's UK pre-selection Phil and Scott submitted a song (written with Geoffrey Williams) for 1993's pre-selection. Sonia sang their Trust to a seventh position.

James McMilIan studied music in London and Boston before starting his professional career playing trumpet with Sade in 1985. His credits now extend to playing keyboards, producing, arranging and co-writing, with Ronan Keating amongst others. He has worked with Whitney Houston and Van Morrison, played with James Brown and Paul Weller and recently programmed and arranged the Boyzone track, Baby Can I Hold You Tonight.
