Biography
Tublatanka is one of Slovakia's most successful and experienced rock bands, with chart-topping albums at home and in the Czech Republic. Established in 1982, they include lead singer and guitarist Martin Durinda with Jozef Duban (singer and guitar), Juraj Topor (singer and bass), Juraj Cerny (drums), Ingrid Vranovicova and Kvetoslava Kmotorkova (backing singers). Their music concentrates on hard and heavy melodies with high energy and the rocky but smooth voice of Martin Durinda, who wrote tonight's song. The band's song Truth Wins became the anthem of the 1989 Velvet Revolution.
Martin Sarvas is a graduate in architecture and urban planning, and since 1980 has written the lyrics for over 20 albums and was the manager of Tublatanka from 1982 to 1990. He has lectured in music and media studies in Germany, Russia and the USA and broadcasts frequently on several radio stations. [Notes from the Official 1994 Programme by RTÉ]
