Biography
Ruth Jacott began her career in 1977 at the age of 17. She has collaborated with a number of Dutch stars and has toured in Germany, Switzerland and South America. Ruth has played several very successful roles in musicals, notably 'Cats' and 'A Night At The Cotton Club'. In 1986 she won the 'Knokke Cup' in Belgium and in 1989 was awarded the most important Dutch musical prize, the 'Zilveren Harp'. In the same year she teamed up with Hans Vermeulen for her first Dutch hit single "Teygo Makandra". The song was re-released in 1992 to raise money for the victims of the El Al plane crash on two flats in the Bijlmermeer.
Composers Eric van Tijn and Jochem Fluitsma have been working together for a few years and are established figures in the Benelux music industry. They have been involved in film and television music and have had several top ten hits in the USA, the UK and Italy with the songs they wrote for Dutch girl group Mai Tai. Edwin Schimscheimer assisted Eric and Jochem with the musical arrangement of 'Vrede', and also wrote the Dutch entry to the Eurovision in 1992.
Henk Westbroek, lyricist, is a graduate in sociology and has served as a member of the Netherlands Film Censors. While still working as an academic, Henk began singing in the group Het Goede Doel and has gone on to become a successful radio presenter and co-composer of a number of Dutch hits.
Harry van Hoof has worked with virtually all the top Dutch artists, and in 1990 won the 'Golden Harp' award for his great service to Dutch light music. [From the 1993 Programme by RTÉ]
