Biography
After having written the 1967 entry for Monaco, Serge Gainsbourg (born Lucien Ginzburg 02-03-'28 in Paris) changed tactics. Eager to shock people he wrote songs that hinted at sexuality. Serge recorded Je T'Aime... Moi Non Plus originally with Brigitte Bardot, but after complaints of her husband Günther Sachs the song was withdrawn. Serge recut the song with his third wife and filmstar Jane Birkin. Despite the song being banned by radio stations all over the world because of its sexual contents, this didn't prevent the song topping the charts of a lot of countries. They followed up this single with an even more sexual song La Décadanse, a song that was accompanied by a suggestive dance. Serge would continue to shock throughout the rest of his career, mainly with songs centered around sexual themes. His best work was reserved for female starlets like Jane Birkin, Françoise Hardy and Vanessa Paradis. After some earlier heart attacks Serge Gainsbourg died 03-03-'91, merely one year after Joelle Ursull sang his song at the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest. Therewith ending his career, where it in 1965 really took off.
