Biography

Maynard Williams, Ryder's lead singer is accompanied by Dudley Phillips (Bass), Paul Robertson (guitar and backing vocals), Andy Ebsworth (drums) and Geoff Leach and Rob Terry (keyboards and backing vocals).

Maynard is currently starring as Electra, in Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit West End musical "Starlight Express". He is an actor as well as a singer and his numerous stage and TV credits include "Guys'n' Dolls", "Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat", and the BBC tv production of Shakespeare's "As You Like lt". He co-wrote and sang the theme music for a popular tv comedy series "The Gaffer" which starred his father, actor Bill Maynard.

Dudley Phillips has worked with the Annie Whitehead Band (with whom he recorded a single, "Alien Style"), and the Kevin Kitchen Band. Paul Robertson has made albums with such bands as "The Viewers", "The Perfect Zebras", "Comsat Angels" (hits from 1984 being Day One and Independence Day), and "The Qpposition", plus appearances on tv and radio. Andy Ebsworth has worked with the bands "Any Trouble", "The Perfect Zebras" and has appeared on BBC tv's "Old Grey Whistle Test". Geoff Leach has made numerous tv appearances and has recorded albums with "The Adventurers". Rob Terry has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from Birmingham University. A violinist and composer, Rob works as a session musician.

Lyricist Maureen Darbyshire from Liverpool had plans to take up a stage career after graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She started writing lyrics in 1980 and since then her credits include the tv themes for the popular tv comedy series "Russ Abbott" and "The Gaffer". She had just completed all the lyrics for the new Richard Cocciante album. Richard Cocciante being the Italian singer Riccardo Cocciante singing in French or English.

Composer Brian Wade, born in Gibraltar is no stranger to the Eurovision Song Contest. One of his songs can be heard on 1984 Euro-winners Herrey's' English album. He has also written for Carola, Sweden's 1983 Euro-song competitor, whose album was Sweden's best seller. He is now working with Vicky, Britain's 1985 Euro-songstress. A prolific composer of tv and film theme music, Brian is currently writing music for Britain's first cable tv channel. [Notes from the official 86 programme by NRK]
