Biography
Gitte (born Gitte Haenning 29/06/46 in Århus, Denmark) recorded her first song at the tender age of 6. The song Ich Heirate Papi was in German, like so many songs of Danish artists at the time. Subsequent releases were in Danish however. Returning to German repertoire she scored her first hit in 1963 with Ich Will 'Nen Cowboy Als Mann. Best known internationally however she was for her collaboration with colleague Rex Gildo. (Gehen Sie Aus) Vom Stadtpark Die Laterne and Hokus Pokus were European wide hits for the duo in 1963 and 1964. During the same period she also starred in some films like Liebesgrüße Aus Tirol and Und Sowas Muß Um Acht Ins Bett. After 1964 her international career dwindled, but she remained popular in the German speaking countries until far into the 90's. From the mid-80's she started to use her full name Gitte Haenning rather than merely Gitte.
