Biography
The New Seekers consisted for the contest of Peter Doyle, Eve Graham, Marty Kristian, Paul Layton and Lyn Paul. The British group originally was formed as a follow-up to the highly successful Australian formation The Seekers. Despite having as much success chartwise as The Seekers The New Seekers never achieved the credibility of the group they succeeded in the charts. Hitting the UK charts for the first time in 1970 with What Have They Done To My Song Ma (their cover version of Melanie's international hit), it was the follow-up single Never Ending Song Of Love from 1971 that shot them to the attention of the general public. That song was followed by their first number one hit I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing (In Perfect Harmony). Beg, Steal Or Borrow missed the no. 1 spot in the UK by one position. But it would just be another year, before the group reached the no. 1 spot in the UK again with You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me, this time as The New Seekers featuring Lyn Paul. Shortly afterwards the group called it a day, with only Lyn Paul reaching the UK charts in 1975 with It Oughta Sell A Million. With an altered line-up the group started to record again in 1976, but they never quite achieved the success they had in the early-70's.
Both Lyn Paul and The New Seekers had a stab at A Song For Europe after their participation in the 1972 contest. Lyn Paul missed out on a ticket to The Hague, when she entered the UK final in 1977 with If Everybody Loved The Same As You. The New Seekers missed out on a ticket to The Hague altogether in 1980, as their entry Tell Me had to be withdrawn from A Song For Europe, when it was discovered The New Seekers had performed the song already live before the UK final.
The group is still touring in the 90's with an ever changing line-up.
