My story

Aleksi DC

Hello Everyone!!!! Eurovision Rocks!!!
(I don't care what the western press has to say about it at the moment, it rocks anyway)

I'm a Finnish/English fan of Eurovision who has lived across Europe in Germany, England, Finland and now England again. I am a firm believer that Eurovision should include as many different music styles as possible, and not just be 24 cheesy pop songs in a row (not that there is anything wrong with pop, but there's a limit to what you can digest in one evening :)). It's great to see countries that dare to be original and try something new, even if there's the risk that it will be taken the wrong way.

A lot of the time, my favourite Eurovision entries have been ones that Europe has sadly underestimated on the actual night of the contest (Gotta love the underdog ;)). To get some idea of my taste in music, here are some of my favourite Eurovision songs:

2008 Belgrade
FINLAND Teräsbetoni - Missä Miehet Ratsastaa
IRELAND Dustin the Turkey - Irlande Douze Points (Hell yeah!!!!!! ;) I say Eurovision to Dublin, 2009)
SERBIA Jelena Tomasevic - Oro
AZERBAIJAN Elnur & Samir - Day after day

2007 Helsinki
FINLAND Hanna - Leave me alone
RUSSIA Serebro - Song # 1
ICELAND Eirikur Hauksson - Valentine Lost
GEORGIA Sopho - Visionary Dream
SLOVENIA Alenka Gotar - Czet z Juga

2006 Athens
FINLAND LORDI - HARD ROCK HALLELUJAH (Ok, It won, but you can hardly blame me for loving it :))
ICELAND Silvia Night - Congratulations (It's sad that Europe really had no sense of humour when it came to her)
NORWAY Christine - Alvedansen
POLAND Ich Troje - Follow my heart

2005 Kyiv
GERMANY Gracia - Run and Hide (Should have been in the top 10)
SWITZERLAND Vanilla Ninja - Cool Vibes (Should have won)
RUSSIA Natalia Podolskaya - Nobody hurt no one

2004 Istanbul
UKRAINE Ruslana - Wild Dances
SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO Zeljko Joksimovic - Lane moje
BELGIUM Xandee - 1 Life (I was seriously expecting this to win, I still can't believe what happened)

Some older Eurovision entries:
2003 RUSSIA t.A.T.u - Ne verj, ne boisja
2002 UNITED KINGDOM Jessica Garlick - Come back
2001 FRANCE Natasha St-Pier - J'ai ne que mon âme
2000 ESTONIA Ines - Once in a lifetime
1999 ICELAND Selma - All out of luck
1994 UNITED KINGDOM Frances Ruffelle - Lonely Symphony
1987 FINLAND Vicky Rosti - Sata Salamaa
1985 FINLAND Sonja Lumme - Eläköön Elämä
1984 FINLAND Kirka - Hengaillaan
1983 FINLAND Ami Aspelund - Fantasiaa

And, what I think, are some of the worst Eurovision songs of recent years...

2007
ISRAEL Teapacks - Push the button
UK Scooch - Flying the flag

2006
PORTUGAL Nonstop - Coisas de nada

2005
FYR MACEDONIA Martin Vucic - Make my day
LATVIA Valters & Kaza - War is not over
CYPRUS Constantinos - Ela Ela

2004
SWITZERLAND Piero & the Musicstars - Celebrate
AUSTRIA Tie Break - Du bist
