My story

Owen Williams

Hi I'm Owen Williams and as you can may be able to tell by my name I'm from Wales, but i'm half British and half New Zealander, i'm currently studying Politics and International Relations at Manchester University (YAY its well awsome!)
I'm 20 and living with friends in a student house.
My dad was born and raised in Wales and met my mum who was also born in Wales but moved to New Zealand when she was about 5 at a buddhist proiry in Cumbria, Northern England. They left Cumbria when I was 1 and married in Swansea (where they still live) and the rest as they say is history.

I just read other peoples stories and their all about Eurovision so:
I only started watch Eurovision in 2001 in Copenhagen but I started to get fanatical about it in 2003 when Sertab Erener won it and the UK got nul Point lol.
My favourite Eurovision Songs of all time are:
Reise Nach Jerusalem (Germany 1999)
Ne ver Ne Bosija (Russia 2003)
Forogji Vilag (Hungary 2005)
the Silence That Remains (Israel 2005)
Molitva (Serbia 2007)
Song#1 (Russia 2007)
Voda (Bulgaria 2007)
Fight (Moldova 2007)
and
Without Your love (Armenia 2006)
The worst Eurovison I've seen has to be 2008 (sorry to everyone who liked it) didn't like pretty much ANY of the songs.
My favourite Eurovision that I've seen is 2005 because it had loads of great songs lol
My least favourite songs are:
80's Coming Back (Estonia 2003)
Celebrate (Switzerland 2004)
To Believe (Israel 2004)
Amar (Portugal 2005)
Loca - (Moldova 2006)
Verka - (Ukraine 2007)
Sebastien Tellier (France 2008)
Pirate of the Sea (Latvia 2008)
Bulkan Girls (Romania 2009, blatent call for Eastern votes!)

Best UK song (of recent years):
Touch My Fire - Javine (2005)
My Time - Jade (2009)
Worst UK song (of recent years):
Flying the Flag - Scooch (2007)

I hate it when people say the UK should leave because it doesn't send good songs. The UK is THE most successful country in the contest with 5 wins and 15 seconds (we have been in the top TWO 20 times ouf ot 53!, not bad!) We have also held the contest more times than any other contest with 8 contests coming from the UK! The UK also has one of the best and biggest music industries in the world, this is a MAJOR factor towards the UK not sending good songs, artists that have made it big in the UK and US tend to have made it big everywhere, they dont NEED ESC and ones that havent dont want to risk their careers in a contest that is known for its biased voting!! Can you imagine if Sugababes sent one of their best songs to ESC and came 19th, their careers would be over! when you consider our last really good result in 2002 was Jessica Garlick who came 3rd, hasn't released a SINGLE song since the contest OR really got a career in the public eye, you can understand why celebrities dont really want to risk it!
For the UK to leave ESC would be one of the darkest days for the contest! It would loose one of its most successful countries and a HUGE chunk of ESC history!
I know this is gonna sound like a load of clap trap nationalism to a lot of non British people especially those people from countries that have only recently joined the contest.
Just BEWARE, the UK is a sleeping giant! with newly hatched kiddy dragons running round thinking they run the place, put it this way, when it comes to the Western ESC giants (UK, Ireland, France, Sweden, Spain and to some extent Germany) never say never!
