My story

My earliest memories of the contest go right back to the early 70s. I remember well seeing the video for ABBA's Waterloo on the BBC's preview show and knew instantly I'd found my winner. I lost track with the contest from the mid 80s til the mid 90s. 1998 saw me rediscover Eurovision thanks in no small part to Dana International and a pre-Contest visit to Israel. Birmingham remains one of my favourite years (along with Riga and Helsinki). My first contest was Copenhagen, followed by Helsinki. And Belgrade here I come!
I think immigrant/neighbour voting is fatally undermining the competition in many Western European countries and causing the growing number of 'joke' songs. Surely things can't carry on like this.
