THE NETHERLANDS AND THE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST
As a member of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) the NOS has been broadcasting the Eurovison Song Contest (ESC) since 1956. In that year the first ESC took place in Lugano, Switserland, The Netherlands were among the first countries to compete in this event. Since 1956 the Netherlands have participated in the Contest for 48 times (including 2007/Helsinki). In 1985, 1991, 1995 and 2002 the Netherlands did not participate.
Since the start of the Eurovision Song Contest the Netherlands have won the contest four times: in 1957 (Corry Brokken "Net als toen"), in 1959 (Teddy Scholten "Een beetje"), in 1969 (Lenny Kuhr "De troubadour") and in 1975 (Teach-in "Ding a dong"). Until now the Netherlands have organised the ESC four times as well: in 1958 (Hilversum), in 1970 (Amsterdam), in 1976 (The Hague) and in 1980 (The Hague). In 2007 NOS will broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest for the 52th time. The Netherlands will be seeking their fifth win.
