My story

John Redpath

I watched my first ESC in 1968 when it was repeated on Sunday afternoon on the new BBC2 channel, I loved the international flavour of the contest and the voting. I still prefer the ESC when it had only 20 countries and was taken more seriously, when UK entries made the Top 5 and ESC winners also became hits. I fell in love with ABBA in 1974...............
I saw Brotherhood Of Man win a Song For Europe at the Albert Hall in 1976
Then I saw all Songs For Europe at the BBC Theatre from 1980 onwards
I admit that I am still adjusting to the changes and I suppose that I am still lost in 1997 when the UK won
My favourite tracks are Luxembourg 1975 and 1983, France 1973 1nd 1975.........so I hanker after French ballads
